Forums - Gaming - Game Over for Atari?

I wonder who would absorb Atari's clientèle if they vanished.  EA?  Microsoft?

Around the Network

Microsoft would be a good suitor... Atari has a lot of IP in the back rooms that could benefit from Microsoft's cash reserves.

EA and Activision likes to take successful companies.

Nintendo might be interested as well.

They deserve it. Infogrames (who Atari REALLY are) have been in the crap for years, with poor games, no original IP. With all the quality around these days, they were always going to struggle.

I really hope Nintendo stays away from these guys. I can't even remember a single good game from them.

Nintendo should buy these guys so they can have old atari games on the virtual console.

Btw what happens to Alone in the Dark 5?

Poor Atari. With all they've done for gaming, it just makes this all the more depressing.

I'm a big dragon ball z fan, so when they made DBZ budokai i was happy... then they just kept making more and more games with little variety between them, just more characters with each game.

And here I am thinking it was Game Over for Atari back in the 70's when they got rid of Bushnell...

Haven't they been done for for a while now? Innovate or die.

It would be nice to have their arcade games on the VC.

Really, Nintendo needs to buy them for three main reasons.

(1) VC would gain a massive boost. Heck, they could sell old Atari 2600 games for like 150-200 Wii points, and Atari 5200 games for 300-400 Wii points. It'd be a steal.

(2) Nintendo would get license to every single Atari-branded game. This would give them a substantial boost in possibilities. There IS the chance it wouldn't profit them in the end, but that's okay, since...

(3) It'd keep the competition from getting ahold of any of these possible gems.
