Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Anyone believe we'll see a new Ninty console in 2012?

It's possible I suppose but they would want to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible by continuing to support the Wii for several more years and make sure backwards compatibility, including for downloadable titles, is part of their plan.

If we don't see any new major titles announced at this E3 then I would be looking for them to announce their new system at the following E3 for possible release by the end of 2012.

Thats what i'll be looking out for while watching E3.  I just feel that as the HD consoles games are really improving with each passing year (and I dont mean graphics but AI, game size, dialog, mechanics, online)  then Nintendo will seriously have to think about this now and plan for it.

2011 would be nice but I cant see it personally - as many others have said a new handheld will get released first, and a full HD, backwards compatible, more poweful console with more storage, a better online model and aimed at core gamers whilst still supporting the Wii for younger / more casual gamers makes sense.

Maybe this year...

2012? Too early to tell. Might just happen, but I think it'll be 2013.

Nintendo Network ID: Cheebee   3DS Code: 2320 - 6113 - 9046

My guess is , in November 2012 ( in the US) the Wii2 and xbox720 launch about a week apart.

I reckon this is the year for the Wii to wind down and we'll know for certain at E3.  What we do know is the wii would keep selling for Fitness and family games and dare i say it casual gamers but now the market for core gamers is also rapidly growing and it's getting as big (maybe bigger) as the movie industry and I reckon Nintendo are gonna want a share of that too.

Holidays 2011 there may be a new console but I doubt it - i reckon that'll be the new hand-held and holidays 2012 will be the new console.

I say this because of the next Zelda...might be a good way to make us change our handheld if they make it a Wii/N6 game

Why would Nintendo launch 1st? They are the leaders this gen and so they play all the cards on the next-gen launch. I believe they will know the best time to launch their new console and will do so accordingly

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

they are the leaders in hardware but i think the Wii and others aren't in the same market. games like MW2 has proved that there's a lot of money in the Core market to be made.

I think the Wii will look extremely dated by 2013 and they dont have to turn their backs on the Wii - just have a Wii's bigger brother with all bells and whistles so the market has choices.

I doubt it, more powerful hardware would not mean more console sales for them, and every other innovation can be made through peripherals.
