Forums - Gaming Discussion - CES 2010 : Is this really the year of 3-D

Looks like they're making a big deal of 3-D again but are we really willing to pay extra for it? What will it mean for gaming? Will people actually put on silly glasses to watch the World Cup in 3-D and what about guests who want to watch?

As someone who used to praise until I actually seen a few in movie theaters i'm skeptical. I mean how is it going to impress at home when it didn't even impress me and my date in the theater?

What's your thoughts? Is 3-D really going to be the next big thing?

How about BluRay having a 3-D standard and all 3-D channels that are supposed to launch this year?

I believe the 3D won't be a reality for the consumers now (just like the HD at the beggining of this generation). It's the year of HD, now a lot of consumers are aquiring HD TVs and they won't throw their expensive TVs on the garbage.

3D won't have much impact now, and it won't help the PS3 yet.

the day 3D will take off, is the day 3D glasses aren't needed for 3D to work.

It's a nice gimmick, but one that will only remain in the movie theatres, that's what I reckon.

People really need to try 3D gaming.

Right now there is big hype around it kinda like there was a big hype around 3D games back when PS1 and N64 came out. Its because people don't really understand it and are speculating what its like.

Also keep in mind, 3D will not help a game that sucks and 3D does not work well with all games.

So its still all about games.

Here is am example...Devil May Cry 4 looks mindblowing in 3D on the PC using Nvidia 3D vision. Like godly amazing...

However Bayonetta in 2d >>>>>>> Devil may cry 4 in 3D.

we need 3D contact lenses. Or in the future an operation to put some kind of thin lense over our eyes so as we walk around cities signs and billboards will be 3D hahahahaha i envision a world of chaos because of it! but still, having 3D stuff everything is something that would work in an anime, especially if some bad terrorist took over control of the 3D networks and then started messing with peoples minds with fake 3D simulated and real terrorist attacks.

But apart from that crazy future, having contact lenses would take away the need for the glasses and allow us to watch these things on TV in comfort :)

If at first you don't succeed, you fail

I tried 3D movies one (the movie Up) and with my glasses on, it was a hinderance more than anything else.  It didn't do much for me at all.  Not sure how much better 3D gaming would be.

Again, as you posted, 2D gaming that plays great is better than 3D that plays only so-so.

Are you sure you didn't sneak something illegal into the theater?

Nope, I am obviously not used to the whole 3D thing, I don't beleive in taking illegal substances
