Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 got the YLOD, i dont know what to do.

Get PS3 slim. 3.15 update allows you to transfer all saves including the protected from PS3 to PS3 if your phat is still working.

Trade it into Gamestop for credit towards your PS3 slim they will still except it even though it doesn't work.

My cousin got $85 for his dead phat 60gb.

Good Luck!!!!

i called sony. They said i could either fix it for 179.99 or get a refurbished slim for 149.99. Here is my question, do refurbished consoles have a full one year warranty because i heard sony might only offer a 90 day warranty. I should have asked when i called but forgot to.

Also i hear refurbed consoles are not something worth trying because of how much they break.

Alot of people are saying that they have gotten refurbed consoles from sony that have broken weeks, and sometimes days after they get it. I am just worried that if i choose to take the $150 refurbed ps3 slim for sony that it will break right after.

if you had 60 Gb i would have told you to go it to sony but in your case buy a slim

The 60GB SKU is about the only one worth turning in for a refurb (the Motorstorm and MGS4 SKUs as well), and ONLY if you insist that being able to play PS2 games on your PS3 is an absolute game-breaking, must have feature.

Otherwise, Slim is the way to go.

But everyone has their own preferences. All I know is I turned in my 60GB for a refurb unit (90 day warranty) about a month or two after I had bought a replacement, which promptly became my main PS3. The 60GB unit is now nothing more than another BD player that can be used to play PS2 games as all my main PS3 game saves and game data are on the other PS3 with the 500GB HDD.

^ well guys i called up sony again. They said that the slim would only come with a 90 day warranty. I have heard people having problems with there consoles breaking when they have gotten refurbs from sony. So my question to you. Would you wait 3-4 weeks for the turnaround and getting a refurbished console with 90 day warranty that may break or just buy a new console for 299.99. Alot of people are saying that just buying a new console would be better. but of course the refurb is much cheaper, What would Vgchartz do in my situation? Oh and i have like 4 ps2's so bc really isnt that important to me.

My PS3 got YLOD too you know i sent to sony AND THEY REPAIRED NOT ONLY YLOD but some outside that was broken for only 145 euros you will never see a backwards compability model again the only thing you have to do is to sent to sony and make an HDD upgrade after

when they sent me my ps3 back it was smelling newness just like june 2007 when i bought it , my repaired model has no issues at all

SWEET FAT GOD !!!

If PS2 BC isn't near and dear to you, just buy a new slim.

They use less power, they run a lot cooler and in the world of electronics, that usually means longer life and higher reliability.

Plus, I wasn't able to go 3-4 weeks without a PS3/BD player. My 60GB refurb is fine after about a year, but in all fairness, it sees even less use than my Xbox 360.
