Forums - General Discussion - What's your purpose/goal/ideology in life?

I want to practise hedonism restricted by morality. After doing the right thing, the next thing on my priority is to do whatever would make me the most happy.

Stuff that could make me happy: Games, good food, masturbation, sex (?), moderate ammounts of alcohol, having a healthy body, lack of stress, enough money, family (?), etc.

It should all be seen in terms of cost-benefit and opportunity cost. If I discover that I would actually be happier divorcing and focusing on my work, then I should do so. If I discover I'm happier being a drug addict, then I should do so.

Some of you may disagree and say "That's outrageous! Being [homeless, poor, fat, etc] is crappy!". But that's after I consider which one would make me happier. If I end up being more unhappy being homeless, then that's simply an error in judgement, not an error in the process.

After reading Ecclesiastes, I'm kinda more confident in this path. I shouldn't be building up wealth just for the sake of it, or because society tells me to do it, but only if I actually get some kind of joy or pleasure from doing so.

All hapiness, orgasms, pleasure, etc are the same, for those few seconds, we feel good. So my plan is to just maximize the percentage of my lifetime that I am feeling this euphoria. So far it's been 18 out of 20? 30? 40? 50? 60? 70? 80? (Kinda depressing, because even if I live up to a 100 years old, for 20%) years that I feel like shit. So I'm not doing a very good job at it =/

Pleasure and hedonism has been seen as a negative thing, especially by most religious ideologies and some philosophers. So I was curious what you guys follow.

To make the world a better place, both for present society and the generations ahead. In my opinion, overcoming the natural human instincts of greed and helping to better the planet is the ultimate goal in life. But that's just my opinion.

Have a kick ass movie theater entertainment room. Then play all the games in my collection. I've probably only played like 50 of them. I want the best experience possible when I game and I will wait till it's possible. That's my long term goal.

My daily goal, masturbate 2 times a day.

A lot of people probably practice a form of hedonism restricted by morality even if they don't realize or think about it, sometimes even if they think they are religious or atheist.

Personally, I go along with the chief purpose of man is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever. With that as your focus, it's the best way to have a happy and healthy lifestyle.

What are you waiting for then? If that's your goal and aim, why are you not trying to fufill it? Are you simply lazy?

Too depressed to go out and buy a gun.

EDIT: It's also possible that the depression is solely responsible for my way of thinking. I wish I hadn't posted in this thread now, because people probably think I'm being flippant.

I thought you were joking O.o

Were you being serious when you said you wanted to die? Say yes or no, because I can't reply to you without knowing that.

I'll say yes and spare you the reasons, because depression can be infectious.

You should go to a profesional and work out stuff with them.

The only advice I can give to you as an random guy on the internet is to do that, and until you do, identify the cause of your depression and try to fix it. If you can't fix it, slowly learn to cope with it.
