Forums - Sony Discussion - Why Dosen't Sony exploit their lossless sound compression in their games???

I remember back in the the PS2 years Xbox always advertise their sound capabilities in their boxes, I was so pissed that lots of my PS2 games lacked 5.1 surround sound :( I remember buying games just because I wanted to experience them fully with my home theater, Terminator 3 had DTS!!! nowadays lots of PS3 games feature full blown lossless 7.1 sound yet by looking @ the box info you wouldn't know, bluray is what makes that possible they always want us to know that, I think that aspect of the PS3 is as impressive as its graphic capability.

I think when it comes to multiplat games, the devs have the say in this matter. I believe most 1st party games support this?

Most people who play on a console don't have a 2.1, let alone a 7.1 Yes it is a good selling feature for those who have it, but worthless to the majority. In fact, most still user their horrible tinny, flat sounding speakers that come built-in on thier flat panel TV's.
As for me, I find it an excellent feature. Besides, it is labeled on every box, as to what kind of sound it has. It is just listed in the specs part and not advertised on the front cover.

Uh.

I don't know anybody that games with 5.1.

I know one with a theater setup who watches movies, but that's it. People I know are fine with the default speakers on the HDTV. (...if they even have an HDTV)

Hi c0rd, nice to meet you.  :P

We have a 5.1 surround sound with our TV and I have a cheap (bought used) 5.1 speaker setup for my PC.

Okay. You know what I meant, though!

None of my friends or family care much about surround sound, more about picture.

This.

No-one I know (apart from myself) has surround sound of any sort for their gaming, and only 1 family I know has it for their main TV (i.e. movies, television programs).

I have 1 friend that has 5.1, because he got a package deal with his TV. Other than him, I'm the only other person I know that has an HDTV. So, not a huge deal for a lot of people just yet.

I only game with headphones. Before then 2.1 was the best I ever cared to use. Every single one of my friends either did 2.1 or they did '5.1' (which basically means 5.1 speakers from a system that doesn't support it).
