Forums - Gaming Discussion - Final Fantasy XIII :First Reviews Not as Great as expected

I red some reviews about the game  and it seems that everyone thinks the game is linear and repetitive...If that's the case then I'm very disappointed, because what i always liked most in FF (apart from the plot and the characters)  was the free exploration of the world map...The first blow for me was the departure of composer Nobuo Uematsu, and now this....I dont want Final Fantasy to turn into an action game series.Ive no problem with the action spin offs(even though i never buy em,many people seem to like them),I just want the series to keep the elements that give it Depth.

Sales were great on the first week as expected ,but the second week decline was major, and it may be linked to the changes I mentioned before.I was waiting for this game for Years, and it was the main reason I bought a PS3 back in '07,so I don't want it to be a game that is gonna be forgotten in 6 months...Any Objections to what I'm writing or any comments are welcome,I want to hear peoples opinions about what's goin on,even predictions are welcome.

P.S. Sorry if my english suck,I'm from Greece.

Being linear doesn't really bother me, FFX, the best in the series in my opinion, was more or less linear. I agree with you on the action though. I don't understand what's so wrong with traditional turn-based combat.
The second week drop was expected, if you check previous games in the series, they were all like that (big first week, huge drop).
P.S. Your English is really good. :)

after  chapter 10,you will feel free when you get to Pulse.

Some old FF fans still love nobuo works because of nostalgia.I think hamauzu’s music fit FF 13's world well.

The battle system is very exciting and more tactical, maybe gorgeous as an action game.

I hate how everything that anybody loves is chalked up to nostalgia.
Damn it, could it possibly be that we simply love Uematsu's style? The music he's done before? It's not f'in' nostalgia to prefer a series signature composer over newer ones. It's like when a lead guitarist in your favorite band gets replaced; almost never the same afterwards.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

FF has always been linear. So that doesn't really bother me. If you don't like linear, then go play MMO's. Remember, nobody is going to force you to buy this game. So if you are being disappointed by the reviews, then don't buy it.

I just mentioned some old fans who reject FF 12&FF 13's music composers...not every one.

This game is astonishing, you must play it to understand how awesome it is. Plus, Final Fantasy X was pretty much as linear as this, and A LOT of people enjoyed that game. Reviews are irrelevant when it comes to personal taste.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

People who only like The Doors with Jim Morrison are just nostalgic. The Doors were way better after Jim Morrison died. Same with Queen after Freddie Mercury died, and the Velvet Underground after Lou Reed and John Cale left. And the new Guns and Roses is clearly their best work ever. It's only nostalgia that keeps people listening to their earlier work with the original band. And don't get me started on Van Halen vs. Van Hagar.
