FFVII is the biggest console RPG of all-time, though.

Hummm... for consoles yeah (excluding portables).
For all the rest, Pokemon has the crown.
@ Fab_GS : What do you mean by "the biggest" ? Biggest in sales ? In quality ? Worldwide ? In japan only ? This thread is only about sales in japan. In this case you can't say that FF VII is bigger than DQ 9.

WW non in Japan.
OT: DQ 9 is still selling well so ever doubt about is crown of best selling RPG without pokemon will vanish by some months.
fabinou said: According famitsu, It seems that first release of FF7 sold "only" @ 3,28 millions. (and 3,937 with all release) http://www.japan-gamecharts.com/ps1.php or http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Famitsu_Best_selling_video_games So the answer of Solid snake question is : NO |
The list isn't updated.DQ9 doesn't even show up in it
sales don't work that way, they don't stop tracking FF7. In Japan eventually there are so many used copies that new copies far outweigh the demand and retailers stop ordering new copies. The vgchartz number is actually the LTD number unless you are including PSN numbers which we have no way of measuring. DQ9 is still in the top 30, it's not done yet and it will get rereleases and probably eventually get released on downloadble service by nintendo.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
