Forums - General - Your One And Only Idol. (Music / Art / Writing ....ect)

This thread is serious in discussion and long, if you are not into music/art...ect , you should leave.

every person in existance have an idol, no one can deny it.

i am interested in who you guys think is your very own idol, not one that is going to change tommorow, no i mean, who is a TRUE inspiration to you, a man/woman who changed your world and inspires you to do what you always do.

i will start with my own.

This man to me is perfection.

he blends his Poems with music and perfect tones of deep and high pitched voices (David Bowie to Iggy Pop like) and beautiful scenary and great atmosphere.

this here isn't a song, it is an experience , probably one of the very best songs ever to be writen by a man. (and i beg you to carefully listen to it atleast once ... please )

here is the lyrics for it. (just click on the song , read and enjoy)

Things to Remember when writing figures of speech and sound
The Power of poetry comes from the ability to defy logic
Defy Logic Often
Use a metaphor and tell us that your lover is the sky.
Tell us that your lover is the sky.
When you do that
We won't believe you,
We won't believe you
Because saying so makes no sense
But we'll see a meaning.
We'll see a meaning
The other thing is the ability to be remembered.
Love Anything.
Love Anything
Wasted
I cut myself down
Cut myself down
Wasted
Now Breaking Free
Breaking Free
It's no longer me
Understand where you came from
Floating
I'm facing me down
Prostrate to the ground
Understand
Prostrate to the ground
Mystery
Rain down on my life
down on my life
Maybe there is nothing to say
Breathing
The future is gone
The strain of the past
Sometimes nothing often means;
The beauty of the human experience
Healing
Rain down on my life
Down on my life
Wasted
Now breaking free
Breaking free
It's no longer me
Love Anything
Use a metaphor and tell us that your lover is the sky
Love Anything.
Love Anything
Love Anything
Use a metaphor and tell us that your lover is the sky
Sometimes
Sometimes nothing often means
the beauty of the human experience,
These things are to be remembered
To be remembered

Ah, I think I know now where your (new) user name comes from (Dead Can Dance?).
BTW, I bought "Deep" when it came out. It's the only Peter Murphy album I own, "Cuts Yuo Up" is a fantastic song, but overall I prefer David Sylvian over Murphy.
(Sylvian and Murphy never worked together afaik, but they have similar backgrounds as lead singers/writers of legendary 70s avantgarde bands and they're somehow connceted as Mick Karn was Japan's bassist and worked with Murphy on their one album project Dali's Car).

OT: I don't have an idol. I never admire the person, I always admire the work.
I could easily list hundreds of artists from classical composers to soundtrack composers, from solo musicians to duets to bands, from screenplay writers to movie directors to actors/actresses, whose work I admire, but none of them is my idol. (Noticed something? I don't read books).

If I had to name three artists though, whose work I admire the most, it would most probably be J.S. Bach, Miles Davis and Charlie Chaplin.

Same here.

"You get the best of both worlds."

That's my inspiration to write serious and joke threads.
