When you're talking about sport teams, do you do this too? O.o

Sheesh, some of you guys need to relax, I'll rather have normal fanboys that say "Gaystation" or "Halo sucks" than this mind breaking shit.

Sports?!  WHat's that!  We talk about games here!

Unless you're talking about MADDEN!  I know that Sport!

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Madden isn't a sport.

I'm just trying to say that bringing up these financial reports and sheets and saying "Ha!" is a bit weird. We're relishing at the fact that a company's making profits (during a certain interval at least) instead of trying to argue that the console's features and games are better. It's like we're fucking Bobby Kotrick...

Fuck this shit...

!♥Kyun♥!

please stop winking at me, and tell your sister to do the same!

Actually their errata which came with the financial reports laid the blame for subsequent losses
areas of the EDD outside of the Xbox 360, I.E. research and development etc.

The thing is for all the people who look at these numbers, with no analysis, will try to spin some analysis when M$ post numbers for this quarter, and by that, I mean Windows 7 shipped and will really skew these numbers to the postive.  What people don't realiuze is that for most of the Xbox lifetime, Vista has been a drag, along with Zune and Mobile, so as those product lines turn, so will EDD.  I can imagine some serious howls, if EDD post an outrageous profit number.

They have 3 quarters left, I think they can post a billion in profit for the financial year and after that I don't know. Its somewhat plausible they can break even on the Xbox 360 if they are able to maintain a decent rate of console sales without having to slash the price of the console too much. I.E. if Natal is a success.

Im kind of tired of doing analysis of the EDD but every single time the numbers point to Xbox 360 making up a large proportion of revenue but not its fair share of costs in the division.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think neither Windows 7 nor Vista are part of this division.

Retail sales of Vista, 7 and maybe office products are part of this division but most of the revenue is paid back to the respective division within Microsoft (Windows/Office). The EDD is the only division which interfaces directly with retail.

I think it's way better to discuss financials than which features and games are better. Financials are facts while features and games have no way to really objectively measure them.

Also, if you don't like this sort of discussion, simply avoid the sales forum. Nobody is forcing you to talk about business.

I find it to be hilarious when people come into a financial thread to complian about people talking about financials.

The retail revenue passes thru for sure, but I'm not sure as to how cost are handled...I would imagine those are not tagged to EDD, while all the profit is passed on.

I really wish that Microsoft would just put the 360 in its own division, that would save us a lot of guessing and give us much better information. The same goes for Sony since they combined the PS with vaio and walkman at the start of this fiscal year.

EDIT: And actually, it would also be neat if the companies with more than one system (Sony and Nintendo) gave us more detailed breakdowns of their gaming machines in their financial reports. That's even more unlikely to happen though.

CEOs want as few direct reports as possible, and so lumping is great to cutback on that.  The issue is trying to make sure you align divisions (departments) to maximize synergy of the product lines, and in the case of Microsoft...EDD = Retail Consumers.  It is possible to do alot of painstaking work to discern a better gauge of $$$ amounts for Xbox family, but why bother when people will always look bottomline number.
