Forums - Sony Discussion - Not very impressed by GT5 demo

OMFG are you serious with this thread? Ok let me explain something to the people that don't get it. This "demo" isn't even 300mb. It is stated that this is a HIGHLY stripped down time trial on professional setting to give an idea of the handle that is supposed to simulate real life handle. I repeat this is nowhere near what you will get and you all should have figured it out when you saw that the download was less than 300mb. I hope this post helps.

Lol Saviorx is just hating on it for some reason or the other.

Its the PS3 all over again. People are hating on it without giving it a chance and judging it on a demo that represents a very small fraction of the actual game

Yeah, um, A) I love the PS3.  Just because I don't like every exclusive for it doesn't mean I hate the PS3.

B) Whoever said it was "ignorant" to think that the final release will not look better than the demo----It's ignorant, at least in marketing circles, to expect your core audience to just magically know that.  I would venture to say a vast majority of gamers out there are not details kind of people.  When you say something is a demo of a game on Playstation Network or Xbox Live, then users expect a demo.  It doesn't say "GT5 Demo that is only focusing on the physics, not the graphics or the rest of the game".  It just says "Gran Turismo 5 Demo".

If you, like myself, read gaming headlines every day, follow developer blogs, listen to podcasts, and read/listen to interviews about gaming, you are in the minority.  We are a very vocal minority, I will give you that, but I would venture to guess that most gamers do not like to analyze each and every title for its entire develpment cycle before buying it.  They just say, "I am going to shit my pants when _____ comes out," and then they buy it.  If I were one of those people, I would not buy Gran Turismo 5 based on this lame demo.

Sorry fanboys, but it's entirely possible that this game might just be kind of "blah" as far as sales and reviews.  Maybe I'll be proven wrong and it will be a revolution.  If that ends up being the case, I may just buy it.

Another thread like this.

Just one question,

Do you even know what's the purpose of this demo?

You are so right, alot of these people are completely clueless and didn't bother reading the actual purpose of the demo nor do they realize how ignorant they made themselves look. Seriously, a demo that is less than 300MB!!!! C'mon,  even Comet Crash had more than that. The demo was to show the realism on the driving side, handle, etc. It was not done to show case the graphics and all the cute things that we have become accustomed to. Most of you should have also figured it out when you saw the trees and the crowd....well I guess not....

OK, last post, and then I'm not looking at this thread anymore.

First of all, I am far from "clueless". I follow gaming very diligently, almost to the point where I'm OCD about it. I do not follow racing games too closely because I just don't play them very much. When a demo description basically just says, "This is the GT5 demo", then that's how I perceive it. Not, "This is the GT5 demo minus any kind of good graphics, environments, gameplay, etc. that will be in the final release."

Second of all, the size of the file has nothing to do with anything. I don't care if it's a 5 MB demo or a 300,000 MB demo. If you're going to put the game on display for potential buyers, do whatever you can with that 300 MB, or here's a thought, put another 100 MB worth of content in the demo and make it look better. But don't leave it up to the headline hunters and blog followers to figure out for themselves that this is not really an honest to god demo of the final game. And if you must put something like this out there as a demo, at least let people know what they're looking at. Stop telling me I should have this certain interview or this certain link so that I could be a more informed demo downloader. Are you kidding me? How many people do you think are going to know to do that? Or care for that matter? Despite what a lot of you guys seem to think, the hardcore racing sim enthusiast is ABSOLUTELY NOT the biggest audience for this game. That kind of audience is rarely the biggest group of game buyers unless you're talking about game like Flight Simulator for the PC or something.

Sony is going to advertise the shit out of this game because they want it in as many homes as possible. That's called business. And it's bad business, if you're in the business of selling games, to put out a so called "physics demo" that looks like crap but not let anyone know in the demo description that that's all it is. This has digressed into a discussion about what an idiot everyone thinks I am because I didn't just magically know that this was not a true demo of the game. A simple, "You should check out Prologue because it looks better" would have sufficed here. That doesn't take away the fact that this demo is very poorly represented, whether that was Sony's decision or DP's decision is not important.

I love how sometimes the attitude on this site is, "If you're not going to sing the praises of every game that comes out, then don't post your opinion." You know what fanboys? I'm not on Sony's payroll, I'm not on Microsoft's payroll, and I'm not on Nintendo's payroll. Unless a mod bans me for not liking a game, which I don't think is going to happen, I can say whatever I want about a game. Just because I don't like something or take the demo's description at face value does not mean I'm "clueless". It just means I don't like it. GT5 is probably going to sell a zillion copies whether it deserves to or not. And guess what--when it does, Sony is not going to send you a paycheck based on how many minutes you spent calling me names because I don't like the game. Get a life.

@Domicinator

Wow, you just went from "I want proof" to a whole ranting and bashing commentary. Just as you have a right to voice things you don't conform too, others have the right to voice their opinion in the contradictory fashion just as well.

As for my part, I gave you the proof that you asked for, as did other members as well, take that as you will, it's pretty obvious that you weren't actually looking for proof, rather than for people to back you up on your statements, which by me is fine, I already know what to expect from GT5 and know why that GT T.T competition was targeted for, since I already had participated on the same competition on GT5:P ;)

I believe you guys--I'm sure Prologue looks better than the demo.  And I'm sure you're looking forward to GT5.  What I'm not sure of is why I'm getting insulted.  My point in this thread was that based on the demo I played, I think there are better racers out there.  If that makes you mad, then I guess so be it.

I'm going to file this under "not an issue."

@Domicinator

You're right to be annoyed to those who insulted you, that was really uncalled for, people just tend to use to many abrasive words in their comments these days.

You can look for yourself about whether GT5:P looks better than GT5 TT or not, I posted a video a few posts before ;)

I know that GT gameplay isn't for everybody, and the demo itself wasn't aimed for everybody, since it's stuck at professional driving with no assists, so lots and lots of people will have trouble getting in the game.

I also agree that either PD or Sony could have made a better work to pass the word that this isn't a full showcase of GT5 so that there wouldn't be these sort of confusions, that could have avoided so many things in these forums and given a better impression to the people who got the GT5 TT demo.

Where did you guys download the GT5 demo? First GT5:P was the demo which it kind of is. Now GT:TT is the demo. I downloaded Gran Turismo Time Trial not a GT5 demo. Although saying it was a demo on the title screen was a dumb idea but it doesn't say that in the store.

If that's actual gameplay, I will agree.  Game looks great.  If it's a CGI clip, which most of it definitely was, then I'm still not convinced.
