Forums - Sony Discussion - Not very impressed by GT5 demo

Reading different forums what has become clear is xbox fans/viral marketeers hate every ps3 exclusive equally.

I 100% love my Xbox 360 and spend a lot of hours on it, but my second favorite game of all time (only second to Half Life 2) is a PS3 exclusive.  And that game is Uncharted 2.  I also consider Killzone 2 to be the best console shooter I have ever played (it may now be second to MW2, but it would be a close second).  I also love LBP.  I am really rooting for the PS3 this gen, and I think it's only going to continue to close the sales gap.

So......I think I'm still aloud to hate GT5 if I want to.  Is that ok with the PS3 club?

The time trial is aimed at racing enthusiasts (proffesional physics) which is the backbone of GT's fanbase. The arcade/casual physics will get a demo closer to release so dont worry. But you give yourself away by your choice of words.

I'm not worried.  Games don't worry me.  But I'm assuming they want GT5 to sell to more than just their core audience.  If it doesn't, it's not going to be a very successful game.  And if I were just a guy interested in racing games, I would not buy GT5 based on this demo.

Obvious reply: why bother making a thread just to downhype the game for others then?

Obvious reply to that:  It's an opinion and I am interested in other opinions.  Why bother having a forum on the site at all if we're not supposed to bother to make threads about what we think about games?

I like this point of view. Always being objective really sucks.

It's nice to have different points of view as long as you have a not so bad reference to start with. Your opening post is perfect in that sense: you know what you're talking about, you played a few of the newest racing games so you have the right to talk about what you like and dislike about the demo. That's when the discussion starts and it gets interesting. For example, some people come and say it's not real representation of the game, but they have to show proof. In this thread, I still didn't see a single link posted about what PD apparently said, and it's been like this in three threads already.

Ah, the art of arguing and discussing!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

B) Whoever said it was "ignorant" to think that the final release will not look better than the demo----It's ignorant, at least in marketing circles, to expect your core audience to just magically know that.  I would venture to say a vast majority of gamers out there are not details kind of people.  When you say something is a demo of a game on Playstation Network or Xbox Live, then users expect a demo.  It doesn't say "GT5 Demo that is only focusing on the physics, not the graphics or the rest of the game".  It just says "Gran Turismo 5 Demo".

Like I said, I didn't mean to offend you when saying that, but you can't expect much from a 200 MB demo in the way of graphics if you've seen gameplay videos of more advanced builds, let alone some screenshots.

And for your information, I'm not a fanboy (I own a 360 and Wii, and they get a lot of my play time), and I don't have a problem if you don't like the physics of the game, to each his own. But I'm just saying, if you were expecting more than this, then you're going to have to wait till a future demo. This was specifically aimed at hardcore racing fans.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

from a casual racer. (as in i don't really play a lot of racing games), i thought the demo was underwhelming especially after seeing the videos at TGS and Gamescom.

Again, i'll hold my breath for the game to look 10x better than it is now and i hope the GT5 defense force is right so no one here ends up eating crow (well except for the obvious haters... =P)

Is the game still in my radar? definitely.
Am I going to buy it? It was always a maybe...and now its even more of a maybe, not because of the demo, but the supposed release date competes with several other games i want. =]

GT was always great, and I played GT5:P and i thought that was the best Prolouge to a game ever, so i don't think this game is going to suck, that's for sure. =P

Lol Saviorx is just hating on it for some reason or the other.

Its the PS3 all over again. People are hating on it without giving it a chance and judging it on a demo that represents a very small fraction of the actual game

Yeah, um, A) I love the PS3.  Just because I don't like every exclusive for it doesn't mean I hate the PS3.

If you, like myself, read gaming headlines every day, follow developer blogs, listen to podcasts, and read/listen to interviews about gaming, you are in the minority.  We are a very vocal minority, I will give you that, but I would venture to guess that most gamers do not like to analyze each and every title for its entire develpment cycle before buying it.  They just say, "I am going to shit my pants when _____ comes out," and then they buy it.  If I were one of those people, I would not buy Gran Turismo 5 based on this lame demo.

Sorry fanboys, but it's entirely possible that this game might just be kind of "blah" as far as sales and reviews.  Maybe I'll be proven wrong and it will be a revolution.  If that ends up being the case, I may just buy it.

Its funny you mention following blogs because this blog here mentions no such thing as a demo

Oh and Domicinator I never said anything about you not liking the PS3

And just to clarify once more--I have no problem with this being a demo targeted at a certain demographic and only focusing on physics, but if that's going to be the case, they need to SAY SO.  If they don't, they're not even going to have peoples' interest enough when the REAL demo comes out later.  I'm a hardcore gamer, but a casual racing sim gamer.  Based on this demo, I wouldn't even be interested enough anymore to download another demo before release.

I understand, and I agree it was pretty misleading. But I don't think this is going to be THAT bad for GT's image in the end. A future polished demo should be able to rectify this. But if it really turned you away, I don't blame you.

Then thats what you do Domicinator. Don't buy the game. People who know the GT franchise know exactly what the games going to be like and know the Time Trial is no representation of the actual game. Weather they state that or not doesn't make a differance but I downloaded The GT5 time trial of the store not the demo

Or look at my sig, that's GT5 :)
