Which part was the conviction arc?
Lord Myozogus (SP?) and the wacko church when Guts went out to find Casca

Trying to read KHR next but it's a chore. It's hard to get into a manga when the main character has no redeeming qualities. There are other stories that have main characters who start weak and go through a metamorphosis, but Tsuna is like the worst of all of them. He's like the lamest main character among all of the lame main characters. I plan to read it through anyways, but it's slow. |
Does it seem like Tsuna has no redeeming qualities in this?

Yeah, I mean I have liked every part of Berserk so far, but it gets the best once the awesome witch girl joins.

I can't watch videos here, and even Closer has more going for him, at least he's very stubborn from the get-go. Closer is from Magic Ban Removal!! Hyde and Closer.
Forgot his name but the main character of MAR is at least interesting and has a very vivid imagination, and there's something about his playfulness that can reach the audience. I remember thinking something like that about MiXiM's main character too but I can't remember. Both of those are by the same author/artist as Flame of Recca I think.
So far, Tsuna is running around, whining about being useless, and actually being useless until he gets shot. Among main characters that I've disliked, or I've felt weren't worthy of the mantle of "main character", he takes the cake on being the worst I've seen yet. I'm not saying that won't change, the story seems to do the whole "from zero to hero" thing as I call it, but he's like less than a zero compared to other zeros.
In short, he's not interesting to me. He doesn't seem to have any quality that makes him unique from the other characters in the story, so he's very normal. If I were reading a normal manga, that would be fine, but when I'm reading a manga about how he can be shot in the forehead and live, or with the 10 year bazooka, I expect something equally radical out of the main character. I'll keep reading it, and maybe my opinion will change eventually, but as it is now, it's not very interesting.

All you got to know is that Tsuna becomes UBER BADASS later on in the series (when he is in Hyper Dying Will Mode).

I really loved it when it was only Puck and Gattsu in their travels, it had such a epic feeling to it.
"Guts can be seen as the exact opposite of Griffith in just about every way. Guts is a tall, muscular warrior with short black hair, a body full of scars and wields a monstrous weapon. Griffith is of average height, thin, has long white hair, no scars and wields an elegant rapier. Guts wears tattered black clothing and, though incredibly skilled, fights like a barbarian; winning by any means necessary. Griffith wears white armor and has a much more refined style resembling fencing. In addition they usually have the exact opposite effect on everyone they meet. Most people are naturally drawn to Griffith upon first meeting him and would die for him without hesitation. Guts however is usually feared and detested by just about everyone he comes across. This extends to their morals and intentions as well. Guts usually refrains from involving others in his plights whereas Griffith rarely dirties his own hands. Griffith freely manipulates others caring only for his ultimate goal, while Guts (though he would never admit it) values the lives of others and strives to protect them."
Their second encounter would of been a million times better if Zodd didn't interefere. I really do miss the old Casca ¬.¬

This. I liked berserk the most when it was Guts and Puck all alone in their travels. A lot of people will disagree with me on this but berserk kinda has a shonen-esque feel after the witch girl and the fucking kid join the group. Puck ceased to be funny and became useless and annoying.

Hrm, I like pretty much all of Berserk's arcs, hard to say what's my fav. I definitely don't mind his new party, though, as I like all the members in it...
Favorite char is probably Guts/Gatts, but I find most of the cast pretty awesome. Including some new Band of the Hawk guys, and its leader Griffith. Griffith is still awesome.
(I should probably get myself updated here...)
Well it seems like Casca might be back to normal soon. But yeah, I liked that part too.
And while I don't care for the kid, the witch girl is awesome. The kid never really annoys me though so I don't really care.
I don't think just adding shonen-esque characters can affect the feel so much when you have a character who, in the process of being raped, lost her mind. That doesn't just go away because you add a couple of kids to the story. It's far too bloody to even feel shonen at any time for me.
And I'm glad there was an Ubel Blatt release! Maybe some more will come out, I think the scanlations are only about 40-50 chapters behind at this point. I don't know, I remember an advanced chapter being released a long time ago.
Anyone read the HxH chapter? I want to talk about it haha.
