Of all the awards they announce on the various videos their praise for Demon's Souls seems to be greatest. And looking at all the other games that are up for GOTY on gamespot the Only games it hasn't gone head to head with are: Sims 3, GTA: CTW, and FM3. -AC2 can't win because it didn't win PS3 GOTY and there's no technical reason why AC2 PS3 is inferior to AC2 360.
- Uncharted 2, KZ2, R&C aCiT can't win because they lost to Demon's souls in the PS3 GOTY.
- FM3 can't win because it lost to AC2 in the 360 GOTY
- Dragon Age: Origins can't win because a) it didn't win any platform award and b) more importantly it lost to demon's Souls in the RPG GOTY
- Batman AA can't win because it didn't win any platform awards including losing to Demon's Souls on PS3
- Sims 3 can win because it won the PC platform award and it is yet to go up against demon's souls directly, and it has been judged better than other games that have gone head to head with Demon's Souls
-GTA:CTW can win for the same reasons that Sims 3 can win. It will be a major coup if a handheld game beats out the heavy hitting home consoles and PC.
Demon's Souls also got some special achievement awards, I don't think Sims 3 did.
I'd be happy to see Demon's Souls win a GOTY on one of the videogame "mega" sites, when it is absent from many other big name GOTY nominations lists. In some ways it's the best game no one played too, given its much lower sales LTD than the other GOTY contenders it's up against. |
Sims 3 didn't win PC Goty, Dragon Age did! GTA CW lost Action/Adventure Goty to Uncharted 2 (who lost PS3 Goty to Demon's Souls). If the gamespot staff is consistent than only Demon's Souls can win overall Goty. It's funny cause if it wins it will be the least sold game to ever win gamespot's goty award. The underdog FTW!

Oh you're right! I was getting mixed up. Sims 3 won its genre award category. I watched too many awards videos in one go.Yep DS was the only one that could possibly win if any logic was applied to the decision-making; which is not always guaranteed.
And there we have it Demon's Souls wins! I'm more pleased about this one winning than if Uncharted 2 had won. It's the most innovative game in the list and it seems to be very well done.
Some crow eating required by other people who posted in this thread. Up thread someone says it can't win because it's a Japanese developed game. Well it's a Japanese developed RPG, but it's nothing like a JRPG, so its ability to win wasn't the least bit disadvantaged by originating in Japan.
No Euro-site will give it GOTY because it ain't out in Others. A pity because I'd think a few sites that end up giving DA:Origins the GOTY might have given it to Demon's Souls had it been a contender.
