Forums - Gaming - Gamespot genre awards up

NSMBWii not taking Platformer of the Year is just a travesty -- I don't care how good R&C:aCiT is; I loved the first one (on the PS3) (though I haven't played the new one much yet) but there's just no way I see it beating Mario at his own game.

As for Killzone 2, it's a game that takes getting used to. It plays very differently from any other FPS I've played IMO, from the movement and jumping to the shooting to the ... well honestly what else do you do in an FPS?

The game has a completely original "look and feel" IMO, so it makes my blood boil when I hear people talking about how graphics are the only thing special about the game.

Having said that, there are issues. I haven't explored the multiplayer offerings exhaustively enough to criticize much, but the campaign has problems IMO. For the most part it's a great experience, but certain areas were painful to play through. I played through on whatever Hard mode is called and it was a real challenge, which was good, but made me sensitive to what I consider "cheap" game mechanics. Like people infinitely spawning until a machine gun is taken out, without being told to do it or even that it's possible to do so. Or a boss fight preceded by having to sit in a room while dozens of guys spawn in, kill them, do it AGAIN, and then do it AGAIN only with rockets that are much too quickly-and-well-aimed for an instant kill weapon IMO.

I had several of those moments where I didn't feel like I was being genuinely faced with a challenge beyond my skill level, but rather felt like I was banging my head against a wall, or that the game was being "cheap". I only had one such moment in CoD4:MW.

I have had only a little exposure to Modern Warfare 2 so far -- I'm getting it for Christmas -- but unless it fails to equal, let alone surpass, its predecessor, I can't see myself giving KZ2 (amazing though it is, the above notwithstanding) the nod over it.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

Call of duty 4 Modern Warware 2 didin't win single award!
Killzone 2 beat it easily.Nice.
I see huge lack of Wii and Ds games in these awards.Even Platformer went to Ratchet And Clank (which is awesome)!

Take my love, take my land..

But hmm what XBox 360 exclusive I have missed in 2009? I don't remember seeing one in awards.

Edit:Nvm forgot Forza 3

Indeed best year for Ps3.

Take my love, take my land..

Chinatown Wars PSP > Chinatown Wars DS
Rachtet & Clank > Super Mario Bros.

Wow.

Also, EVERY multiplatform game has a 360 image on the awards.

Gamespot biased? How did you get that idea?

Wow that's 4 awesome Sony games winning.

I don't wanna say anything about R&C or NSMB, but try playing both games first.

Great selection, except for a few. Excellent year for PS3.

Uncharted 2 is no contest, though I'm also loving Assassin's Creed II and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Forza Motorsport 3 is no contest either.

Demon's Souls is my RPG of the year as well.

Killzone 2, a good choice, but L4D2 is also worthy of mention.

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time...while I favored NSMB. Wii this year, I won't argue. To each their own.

The Sims 3 wins best strategy??...weird.

Street Fighter IV was guaranteed.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I agree with most of the awards, but I'd go with New Super Mario Bros. over Ratchet & Clank any day.
