Forums - Sony - Will final fantasy XIII versus become multiplat?

i dont think so, they said the game development was going fast and it was pretty advanced right?
porting it would delay it, maybe they'd port it later but i dont think the sales of ffxiii on xbox360 will be significant enough to warrant that.

lots of ppl will download the game
it's just the way it is, piracy will hurt sales for a game that doesnt require online play, and the game wouldnt sell as well as it will on the ps3 anyway, even without that factor.

plus... Nomura doesnt want it to be on the 360

8.25% shareholding is possibly the minimum amount of stock required to guarantee representation on the board of directors. When you have someone on the board of directors then you have the ability to directly influence decisions. Going multiplat or staying exclusive would be a decision for the board of directors not the CEO. When you have someone on the board of directors who represents the interests of a mega-corporation that is many times larger than you, then you don't make decisions that will piss them off.

If Sony wants a seat on the SE board and they need an 8.25% shareholding to do it, you can be damned sure that no matter what mergers and acquisitions happen they will maintain their 8.25%.

Sony has noone on the Square Enix Board of Directors.

So... yeah.

Those shares are non voting as well. Sony bought them so Squaresoft wouldn't go bankrupt.

Sony didn't help to bail out a company about to collapse with no strings attached. That we can't directly see the strings doesn't mean they aren't there. And Sony doesn't need a Sony employee to be on the board for its interests to be represented on the board. Sony only needs to control one of the seats on the board and they can appoint whomever they choose, or they can simply not oppose any particular appointment.

You don't need voting shares if you have other means of exerting control. In fact voting shares are pretty much useless when one person/organisation has a controlling stake. Not having voting shares is meaningless.

That Sony has their fingers in the SE pie isn't any sort of guarantee that FFvXIII will remain exclusive. But do you really think that 8.25% shareholding didn't get Sony it's Japan exclusivity for FFXIII? The strings attached to the bailout kept FFXIII exclusive in Japan, and those strings will still be at work on other games in development too.

In any case, like others have said, FFXIII's performance on 360 will probably determine the release platforms for vs XIII unless there is a watertight permanent exclusivity deal stitched up with Sony which Sony refuses to move on.

No.  What got Sony it's XIII japanese only exclusivity was that it would cost more money making japanese promotional matierals then it would be profitable.

Sony has no control over what SE does.  Look who is on that board.  No one remotely tied to Sony.

It's all Fukishima hand picked guys more or less.

Your reaching.

Sony has literally zero influence... and not only do they have zero interest but it's in a deparment that wouldn't help SCE if it would cost them a nickle.

What could Sony do?  All they could is "threaten" to sell.  Which wouldn't really effect SE at this point.

^^
Sadly true for Sony, let's hope the current CEO manages to get this matter right. Isn't it divisions' attitude that killed Sega consoles and almost killed Sega itself?

If FFXIII sells very well on XB360 and FFvXIII isn't exclusive by contract, they could make it WW timed exclusive for PS3, then release it on 360. Enduring success of the series on PS3 even with not big installed HW base means they can't afford pissing off PS3 fans removing every exclusive, but a timed exclusive could be fine for them, make content XB360 fans too and make VERY content S-E.

Final Fantasy is very frontloaded game. Who would wait half a year or whole year for x360 version, which will be on several dvd and with compressed data. I mean, if Valkyria Chronicles and Demon Soul eventually will reach 1 mln. mark, while any x360 JRPG is not going to reach that mark anytime soon, it`s very clear where JRPG fanbase is. On PS3.

Not sure.  You really would wish their divisions would work better together though.

I mean, you'd think they'd make more money off Sony IPs appearing only on Sony consoles then they would from getting a little more liscensing money.

I think Stringer wants to head in that direction... it's just, the company is very rigid.

It's frontloaded in Japan. Anyhow, XB360 owners are voracious gamers, its tie ratio tells it, and even delayed, FF is a novelty for them, so it's not to be excluded. And for most gamers not caring for console wars (the vast majority), a game just released on their platform is NEW, even if it was released on other platforms before.

I guess the matter should be carefully and separately evalued for each game and franchise...

Anyhow, Stringer is trying to be even more rigid than division directors when it matters for his plans.

i hope not! multiplat did not turn out well for #13 in terms of the game's overall quality. if SE wants their game to be a technical achievement, they will keep it ps3 only. that is where future potential in quality games lies.

"For playstation 3 only worldwide" appears at the end of the trailer so I don't see why it should go multiplatform. Theres no way for them to port the game to other platforms without labeling themselves liers.

To be honest I really don't want the game to go multiplatform. I was very disappointed to see final fantasy XIII going to the xbox 360 mainly because the game would have to be deducted in order for the game to run smoothly on the xbox 360's architecture. I don't want that happening to final fantasy versus XIII. Judging by nomuras claims and what we've seen so far this is the most promising action rpg final fantasy fans have seen.
