FFvXIII will be a PS3 exclusive atleast until the game goes gold. Square needs to avoid offending Nomura - afterall he is doing directing/character design for FFvXIII and KH:BBS, he working on (and possibly directing) the 2 unannounced SE games, he is doing character design work for FF agito XIII, and more!

This is without considering that SONY owns 11% of SE, which while not enough to control SE dose mean that SONY has some influence (not to mention that SONY has saved Square from going bankrupt twice...)

Sony own less than 11% of SE. It was 8 something % last time but with the Taito and Eidos merger that percent is now probably lower. But I really doubt that % was doing much for them to begin with...

I don't think it'll happen. Possible, but I'm gonna say no.

I thought Square bought those companies?

Often times, even when companies are bought.  It is paid for by the issueing of stock at least in part.

Regardless, the real reason Sony has no imput is because a good 40-60% of SE's stock is owned by one guy.  The former boss of Enix.  Since at the time of the merger Enix was the more successful and profitable company.

Thanks for that. Didn't know that.

No clue if that's what happened in this cases... but that's usually how it works.

Either way, sony doesn't have any influence since all the main stock is owned by one guy who has faith in Wada.

Also, it's not like Sony has that hard of a hand they could play... I mean, what would they threaten Wada with?  That they'll sell their stock all at once?  That'd actually probably be a violation.

Based on the failure of FFXIII, it's almost confirmed. I heard they even planning on changing the name to FFXIII vs Vista

Actually, looks like those mergers might of been cash only. What i can find still seems to list Sony as owning 8.25% of Square.

20.48% however is owned by Yasuhiro Fukushima

With another 8.45% owned by Fukushima limited.

As well as two trust funds, also I believe set up by Fukushima.

The other thing of note really is... stockholders don't really have say on what the CEO does, they can pick the CEO but that's it.

Sony's 8.25% isn't enough to threaten Wada's standing and Sony is unlikely to be able to get any backing since it has very obvious motives in why it would want to steer final fantasy games that way.

The only other thing they could do is threaten to dump Squares stock, which may actually be illegal and in general would be ill advised since it would probably just cost them money.

Sony really has no leg to stand on.  Hence why companies like this have to aquire other companies.   Like when Microsoft bought a majority of rare.  Without a majority the non-partisian shareholders... just won't be partisan.

Yeh...it's pretty much guaranteed to go multiplatform at this point. Look at every other Square Enix game this generation, this is the only one that is "exclusive" to PS3. With the potential to sell millions on 360, SE would be stupid if they don't do it.

I feel like punching some people in their faces.

Wtf why?

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

After saying "yes it is still exclusive" then having "Only on PS3 Worldwide" after the trailer at that post-TGS 2008 event, for this to go multiplatform would really make SE look bad in terms of trusting what they say. I say this because after FF13 went to 360 it became "what about Versus" and SE stated clearly that it is still exclusive. So to go back on that....oh boy, the fanboy rage.

The answer is NO.

The game probably will be released within a year and there is no time left for multiplatform announcement.

Probably 50-50. Sony does own some of square enix, but it's not a company controlled by it's shareholders so to speak.
