TheRealMafoo.. do you have any Māori ancestors? Is that why you are considering moving to Australia? (if that is you in your avatar picture) :/

No offense.

No, Russian and German Jew is what gives me my color.

@Montana

I don't hate America, I just hate what it's becoming. The America I was born in 40 years ago is gone, and I will never see it again.

I don't hate Belgium, but no way in hell would I live there.

Oh, and the reason for Australia over NZ, is I think there immigration laws make it easier to enter and work. Both seemed like great places to live.

Yeah, but you once bitched at Akuma for saying that he'd rather live in France. I just thought that was some big hypocrisy coming from you. Whatever.

To be fair... France is stealth horrible.

Outside of Switzerland it'd probably be the worst place to live if you were remotley libritarian.

Horrible track record on womans rights.

Getting more xenophobic and racist in laws instead of less.

Police are generally considered really corrupt to the point of where the Europeon human rights commission think the police break the laws of human rights.

People like to pretend otherwise... but i'd argue france is far to the right of the USA.

Well, yeah, but Mafoo used it to argue that Akuma hated America. I wouldn't want to live in France either.

Ah fair enough, if Akuma moved to France.. he'd find out he hated it pretty quickly.

America is pretty conservative economically...

Civil rights wise though.

For another example....

I don't think you can actually legitamitly say the US is "so much more rightwing".

No offense.

Why would a Maori want to live in Australia?

Maoris are from Aoteroa, Aborigines are from Australia.

Also yes Britain has been creeping right on civil rights, no more than America lept to the right with PATRIOT though in my opinion, though they do have a creepy amount of CCTV. Most of the west jumped a little to the right after 9/11 as far as domestic security taking a bit more influence over civil rights gos.

Here is the problem.

The stuff in the patriot act is stuff that already happened in Europe.

"Warrantless wiretaps" are the norm in the UK.  All you need is the support of the home secretary.

The UK may have moved as much to the right as the UK, but even more... but the UK has been more to the right then the US forever now.

It'd be the equivlent of the Secretary of the Interior deciding if wiretaps could happen or not in the US.

Stop making the world a scarier place than it already is

At least Canada is pretty okay

Ok, so anyone who knows me, knows I can't stand the direction the US is taking. This last month is yet again, the US headed in the wrong direction.

I feel in my lifetime, this country will fall. We can not keep spending money like we are, and not have a massive negative impact.

So being I can see the writing on the wall, time for me to depart the US. I looked about 6 months ago at places around the world to move too, and Ireland bubbled to the top. However, I do not like the climate there.

So, after looking at all the factors that matter to me, the best solution on paper seems to be Australia. I have never been there however, so for those that live there, or those that have been there, what do you think is the best/worst thing about it?

Thanks! :)

Which part of Ireland were you thinking of?

I'm assuming he means the Republic.

Actually....

http://www.zeropaid.com/news/9639/warrentless_wiretapping_comes_to_canada__canadian_media_censored/

nothing to big to worry about on the warrentless wiretapping front... however, it's bothersome that they apparently thought they could ban the story from the media.

Canada does seem to do a fairly good job though... if only it wasn't so cold.

May end up there anyway, since where i live is going to be based soley on who is hiring sociologists at the time.

I would suggest you go for Melbourne as its a pretty vibrant place and the weather is more a dry heat. If you're looking for humidity I would call you crazy and not offer any suggestions.

Two big downers for Australia.

1. The sun is a killer, it rivals or beats the U.V. index of the sahara desert and burn times are ~10mins for someone with fair skin. Convertables may be a nono.

2. The biosecurity laws are pretty harsh im not sure how you'd feel about your dogs being locked up for 6 weeks without you.

Oh, and i've never been to Australia...

but I know a couple people tangentially who moved their from the US and they LOVE it.

Don't come to Australia.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
