Forums - Sony - Things Sony's Motion Controller Needs To Kill Natal

Both MSFT and Sony motion controllers are going to be bust.

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I don't think the people that buy Gran Turismo (cores) are gonna be happy with motion...

Well to be honest, there's more people hyping Natal, and I have to question those people,

I mean, firstly, all I've seen of Natal, is it being used to maneuver menu's, talk to some child, and play "hardcore" games (Well, I wouldn't really say Burnout is a casual game)

Whereas with the PS Wand, I've seen it used in a variety of things that seem more user friendly, such as drawing and stacking items, which makes me think of Jenga, which is a family game that casuals can play, and also, the games that they're making compatible with it are more casual too, example: LittleBigPlanet.

I mean, the only way for one of these to succeed, is to grab the attention of the casual market, which, if you ask me, Sony have already started doing with EyePet (Although the sales aren't exactly amazing, it's selling, right?)

At the moment, I think Sony have more casual/user friendly games that could easily be made to work with the PS Wand, which will be a start for attracting the casual gamers.

Although I may have contradicted myself by saying it's more aimed at casuals, since it's recieving Resident Evil 5: Alternate Edition, and I do have an answer to that;

Even with a game such as that, the PS Wand will still have a wider variety of games genre wise, and it's always better to have games for everyone, than just aiming at one specific audience, because it seems that at the moment, Microsoft don't have ANY casual games that would properly transfer over to Natal in a way that makes them playable, not from what I can see anyway, so I think this way, Sony will atleast have some games to fall back on when the "Motion War" starts.

Does anyone agree with all of the above?

To be honest, i´m much more excited for "Natal" then the "PS Wand", because i see much more possibilities with the Microsoft one.
From all seen so far, Natal looks to be very diferent from all there is out there in the market, and i have the notion that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg.
And with Johnny Chung Lee on the team, i´m waiting for Natal to have 3D Head Tracking/Virtual Reality incorporated, without the use of glasses (as shown on the Johnny Lee videos).
In my understanding, the idea behind "Project Natal" is that Microsoft wants to turn the TV screen in a MS Surface, and that alone is amazing.

Now, for the "PS Wand", for all i´ve seen so far, it looks like a better Wiimote, but that´s it; it looks like an update on the Wii.
Now, for all we know, the "PS Wand" might be way better than "Natal", which can very well end on being the biggest pile of crap ever made, but the point is, as a technology, i see a much bigger potential in the MS one.

IMO they need to do the following:

Gem + PsEye for $60

3D Compability for a better experience.

-Gran Turismo 5 w/ Gem Compability
-Little Big Planet w/ Gem Compability
-5 good PSN games w/ Gem Compability (Hustle Kings/Under Siege could be two of them)
-New Shooter IP w/ Gem Compability <--- (Advertisement >9000 and we could have a halo kind of shooter)
-Ps Fit
-Ps Sports
-It Only Does Everything kind of campaign.

And with some other hits like Eyepet, Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition or ModNation Racers it's going to be a success.

Headtracking only works with a HMD (head mounted display) if not when you move your head your not looking at the screen anymore. Unless they bring some types of physical controller to use in conjuction with Natal, I cant see how they will have a high adoption rate.

Okay Black Fist, that's fair play, however, you're looking at it from a TechniFreak (No offense, it's just the name I call that group of people) stance, and not from the view of a Casual gamer, A mother isn't going to be thinking "I could get the PS Wand, but Natal is like MS Surface with better technology built in", because she doesn't know what that means, and doesn't need to know either, all she needs to know is that it will keep the kids entertained, and she can join in and play some fun games, right? Cause to me, that fully fits a casual gamer. And, based on the couple of dozen people I've asked, most think that the PS Wand looks better because they don't like the idea of playing a game where you're not holding onto anything. I asked them "Well how about if you're playing a racing game, you use a dinner plate as a steering wheel?" and they all said that it was a stupid idea (I think so too to be honest, lol).

And just to add onto what I asked, if Microsoft DID make a racing wheel peripheral or something, then what's the point of having a "hands free gaming experience", since they've just turned a unique way of gaming into a Wii/PS Wand, which would be a little hypocritical of them.

But yeah anyways, remember, when you're talking about what is best for the audience, think like the majority of the audience, and not as yourself, imagine if you were that mother who was choosing what to buy...

Hmm...things Sony motion controller needs to kill Natal?

How about Sony make some games worth the price of admission. It's been over 3 years and Sony has done nothing to differentiate itself from it's competition but include Blu-Ray playback. Their latest foray into 'casual' gaming seems like an act of desperation. If it's so important to the gaming experience then why introduce it to consumers 3 years later?

Things that need to die in 2016: Defeatist attitudes of Nintendo fans

Why does Sony's motion control need to kill anything? Can't it just be "Things Sony Needs To Make the Wand a Success"?

If anything Sony needs Natal to meet with success to give HD camera based motion control a broader platform. The third party developers would want to be able to release motion control games on PS3 and 360 to maximise potential sales, expesically while the install base on each platform is only a few million.

Natal possibly needs Sony's wand less than Sony needs Natal (arguable), but it would still benefit to some extent by having the larger cross platform install base that a successful Wand would bring.

Wii is too different from either for there to be really tight multi-platform integration. However the Wand can more easily ride on Wii's coat-tails because of the controller (multi-plat Wii/PS3 games). I think MS will see the benefit of a controller in the hand and they will release something akin to the Wiimote either at the time of Natal's launch or soon after. I doubt they'll go with a lollipop.

Good post, but im sure you know as much as me that all the hype (over hype) surrounding Natal can turn this around. Something sure is that controller free is a big limitation.
