This is my opinion about the future of the RE franchise.  RE isn't  the type of franchise that has nothing to do with the other games. (Mario) This means that it has to end sometime. RE is my 2nd favorite franchise only behind Pikmin but sadly it probably won't still be here in 10 years. So I think to finish the franchise off in a good way their needs to be 4 more games.(I don't think this gen should end until 2015)

1. Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition

Wii/2010

A less visual version of RE5 with all new motion control only for Wii

2. Resident Evil The ? Chronicals

Wii/2012

The 3rd Chronical game with the events of RE4 and RE5 only for Wii.

3. Resident Evil 6

PS3 and 360/2014

Resident Evil 6 should come out on the PS3 and 360 in 2014. It should have Leon and Claire as playable characters while Ada and Sherry are sides like in RE2. Claire and Sherry meet up again while Leon and Ada finally don't back stab each other. It should be back to zombies like in the 1st 3 games.

4. Resident Evil 7

Next Gen Console(S)/2017

RE7 should come out in 2017 on a next gen console. It should be the final RE game ever made. It should have Chris and Jill as playable characters with Rebecca as a side character. It should have them finally put an end to the madness. The game should also go back to zombies.

Resident Evil is also my 2nd favorite franchise behind (Metal Gear Solid) and while I do agree it does need to end eventually, I think the time is now...imo RE4 scarred the series big time despite being successful. Capcom with Resident Evil 5 brought back the classic storyline roots (difficult due to the mess RE4 made) but Capcom left the RE4 elements (action-shooter) and even added co-op to keep their RE4 audience
however, from what I have seen of the RE5 DLC, it looks like Capcom might be trying to recapture the classic RE days again, so maybe there's hope for the future of Resident Evil and the PSP RE game is also coming
I think if RE5 DLC turns out to be really good they should reboot the series to the old survival horror days...maybe a remake of RE2 or a prequel in the timeframe after CVX before 4 or after 4 before 5

Unless RE goes back to the original gameplay, I could care less what they do with it.

Is Alice even in the RE Games? Or just the movies ...?

I want Resident evil 6 to be like the first 3 games,, which means 3d characters against prerendered Backgound (in HD they will look Gorgeous),,, i want the main game to be a solo affair not the crap that was RE5!! most of all i want the game to be A RESIDENT EVIL game wich means low ammo, low number of herbs, and above all i want the ink ribbons to comeback, i want to feel desperate !!! If capcom want to make a coop game, then they should ressurrect the Outbreak franshice not slapp a crappy coop mode to the main game.
Let's hope that RE5 is the end of the Gears of EVIl route that capcom is taking !

As long as Resident evil stays the way it did in RE5, the series is dead to me.

Resident Evil has been dead to me for years, RE0 was the last true RE game, 4 and 5 are just adventure games without the fun times the others had, please bring back the Zombies and the Horror, Capcom needs to bring the series back to its roots.

I thought RE4 was an excellant game. However it wasn't a true RE game. I was dissapointed big time with RE5. It was a complete copy of RE4 with tarted up graphics. If they go back to the gameplay of the originals then I'd be happy.
