How will HG and SS compare to Gold and Silver?  Are they straight remakes with new graphics, or do they have some new Pokemon, characters, towns, stories, gameplay elements, etc?

In 2010 or at all? Because in the second case you must look at the game database...

For 2010 are scheduled many RPGs, just a few of them have a date confirmed: Etrian Odissey III, DQ VI and Cross Treasures are the main ones. But Golden Sun 3 And Pokemon SS/HG have yet to come out at least there, and are probably two of the best RPGs of this generation...so even if actually there's not quantity there's atleast quality...

What? Best rpg's of this generation? Golden sun and pokemon? Well whatever makes you happy. In my opinion none of those games are even remotely close to being the best rpg of this gen. Too bad that some mod with anime avatar will ban me if I would say what I really want to say.

Best RPGs this gen so far for me have been the Etrian Odysseys. I liked Blue Dragon a whole lot too, despite some of the flaws.

As far as I'm concerned, next year it's all DS though (DQIX, SMT Strange Journey, etc) with a little Wii on the side (MH3).

I haves a good ammount of new elements and areas in the game, and its according to me the best pokemon thus far, Gold and Silver were great, HG and SS are great+ =D, anyway.. my point i those game sell like hotcakes

Start with the gift i got from Wii Secret Santa, the original Final Fantasy (though i'm loath to start it, as all RPGs start out slow, though this one kinda drops you in), and then move on to Soul Silver, as well as the potential for Monster Hunter Tri later in the year, and Tales of Graces even later in the year.

 

J or W, it does look like there's a helluva lot to choose from.

R-P-G: Role Playing Game.... you take the role of characters and progress through a story leveling up, etc. etc. How are they not RPGs?

So any game where your characters increase in ability is an RPG? Wrong. Is Metroid an RPG? Castlevania? Zelda? No more than any of those. The first RPG was Dungeons and Dragons. Video Game RPGs all derived from those gameplay mechanics. Anything else is an adventure game, NOT an RPG.

So little that appeals to me. Sad considering...

I'll pick up Warband... when it's cheaper and my favorite mods have been ported.

Monster Hunter 3 i'll get.

The final fantasy games i'll get used.

Zelda II's an RPG.  By strict genre definitions, so are CV2 and the Metroidvanias.
