Forums - Microsoft - Is it possible to MS to win this gen ?

MS will not sell more than the Wii. Its 20 million copies behind the wii.

No but next gen will be a theirs to lose. The next Wii will not sell as well because casuals wont care just like Atari 2600 casuals didnt care for the next console.

The XBwill be out of the gate 1st, they will have a lot to prove so there wont be any complacency, they will have tons of money to spend on it, & their fan base will be much more established thanks to the 360's success. I think that the next XB will completely dominate the western regions. Europe will be a little more split and the east will remain mostly PS/Wii but the XB will start to penetrate that market with more success than with the 360.

All this assumes that MS learns from this gens mistakes.

Theirs to lose?

The only system that the 360 has managed to outsell all generation is the PS3, and even then, it hasn't been by much. There were 5.3 million 360's sold when the PS3 launched, so that means that the 360 has sold < 1 million units more since launch. The only reason it's managed to outsell the PS3 at all is because of Sony' numerous blunders, most notably releasing a ridiculously over-engineered $600 console, and like I said before, the difference between the hardware sales of the two systems will be neglibile by the end of the generation. Had Sony simply not made the mistakes it did, it would be comfortably ahead of the 360. It wasn't anything that MS did, just a lot of Sony shooting itself in the foot.

MS isn't going to jump up to first place from a far distant second, especially since at best, it's going to finish just a few million units ahead of the 3rd place console. The biggest reason is software. First of all, it's first-party offerings outside of Halo are pretty dismal, and the majority of the software that appears on the system appeals almost exclusively to core and hardcore gamers. One of the biggest reasons(perhaps even bigger than the Wiimote) why Nintendo has been so successful this generation is because of software. In contrast to Microsoft, Nintendo's software has managed to appeal to everyone. It's accessible enough for new gamers and casual gamers yet challenging enough for veteran gamers and core/hardcore gamers.

It's going to take a hell of a lot more than money for MS to come in first. There money hasn't done much to stop them from being a far distant second this generation, has it?

I thought the point of the original post was to make people realize how impossible is it for XBox 360 to ever pass the Wii.... but now the original poster is defending it, he can't be serious!
