Forums - Microsoft - Mass Effect 3 ends the Story Arc

Bioware originally sold this as a trilogy, and it's good to see that they are already working up the plans for the third and final chapter.  I actually hope they can get this out for the 2011 Holiday Season.  I hope we get 2-3 solid DLCs on the scale we saw for Fallout 3, as that will keep the $$$ following, and align for the Game of the Year release.

BioWare Already Looking Forward to Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 2

After the exhausting effort that went into developing Mass Effect 2 it would be reasonable to expect the team was ready for a break. Not BioWare, or at least not Project Director Casey Hudson. Speaking to the press before showing off the game at a recent event in Edmonton Hudson said, "We're looking forward to it [Mass Effect 3] and it should be more fun for us."

The original Mass Effect and the upcoming Mass Effect 2.

This comment came after Hudson went into some detail about the challenges faced during development with perfecting the system for carrying over saves from the first game. Managing all the potential player choices and their outcomes took such a commitment to making it work that he said, "I'd be really surprised if anyone else tried to do it."

"Mass Effect 3," Hudson said, "will be easier because we don't have to worry about continuity into the next one." While no one ever expected the Mass Effect world to go away after the Shepard trilogy, it sounds like they're pretty dead set to wrap the current story arc up in the third game.

Mass Effect 2 hits PC and Xbox 360 on January 26, 2010. Specific platforms and a release date for Mass Effect 3 have yet to be announced, though the franchise's save data carry-over suggests PC and Xbox 360.

Smart move, I think. Give yourself a couple extra tries to perfect your formula, but move on to new projects before things get stale. You can always crack it back open 5-10 years later if people are really hungry for a new entry.

I'm sure EA won't let the franchise just go. EA might not make Bioware work on it anymore but they might make their other studios work on spin offs of the series.

I really hope this ends at 3, prequels and spinoffs tend to taint a good franchise!

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

^^^ I highly doubt they are going to end the series after 3 games.

mass effect 1: on one dvd
mass effect 2: on 2 dvd's
mass effect 3: on 3 dvd's. Make it happen bioware. The more content the better to send off the series

But I don't think they'll end it unless a game under preforms or something.
