How about HD-DVD.

This is about what I was thinking. Remember that MS was working with Toshiba on the HD-DVD specs, so MS already has a hand in this format. Plus, in a few years, finding blank media and drives for piracy will be a bitch (but not impossible). DVD, as has been said, I don't think will be an option, due to space issues. I can see BR also being an option due to keeping a multi-media front, but I think that piracy will be something that MS will be looking harder at next gen. Either way, it will be one of those 2 I mentioned.

sorry to dissapoint you guys but HD-DVD is officially dead after jan 2008 all film companies left hd-dvd and stopped producing both playes and movies blu-ray won over HD-DVD worldwide some magazines where writing " HD-DVD VS BLU-RAY ,the battle for the next format is over "don 't forget that with blu-ray ps3 won also and 360 lost because MS released a hd-dvd player  for it and was the one from the first companies to support , well MS big mistake was that 360 games were on simple dvd and not on HD-DVD in copmarison to ps3 games being on blu-ray discs and many analysts stated that a factor that blu-ray won was ps3

As a movie format, yes, it is dead. However, this doesn't mean that the format never existed. I really think it will come down to what MS sees as more important- keeping the inroads made against piracy (through the bans, etc), or keeping multimedia playback. If they go for the former, to pirate a 720 game (or whatever you want to call it), you would need to get an HD-DVD burner and disks. You've acknowledged that these are no longer made for the consumer level, which was my point in using the format for anti-piracy. Going with the latter will result in use of BR disks. And while it's been a long time thus far in the PS3 not being cracked, I think it eventually will be, and BR burners do exist, which will permit the piracy again. It won't harm the PS3, but if people know what (methods) to look for on the 720, it won't go as long without being cracked. Eh, we'll see...
