The movie jumped past $1 Bln WW this weekend...Titanic is next. It's funny...Cameron made jsut $75M off that film, as he gived up the rights to his % participation...looks like lightening will strike twice, as the guy is probably going to make $200-300 million off this film!

Oh...and it disappointed (ROFLOL) and acutally dropped 9.7% to 68.2 million this weekend....incredible!

There's no big movies to challenge Avatar for a while and Oscar noms will only increase demand. I wouldn't be surprised if Avatar took the best picture award away from The Hurt Locker. Interesting factoid: James Cameron was married to Kathryn Bigalow(Hurt Locker director). The media will have a lot of fun with that one

I'm happy that 2009's highest grosser won't belong to Michael Bay.

It wouldn't be even without Avatar.

I meant in the US, obviously...

How was it obvious that that was what you meant? And besides, why would you only count Domestic? Worldwide is far more important.

Besides, if we're counting Domestic gross in 2009, Transformers 2 beat Avatar.

Okay, I'm done owning you now. Bye.

Wow...so mature! Sorry if you were offended! It was obvious I was talking about the US because WW it trails Harry Potter6 and Ice Age3.

Movie grosses don't cut off at the end of the year but I guess you know that already too.

Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.

Patiently waiting for:  Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2

Wow...so intelligent!

Take a look at this.

And movie grosses don't cut off at the end of the year, but you were talking about 2009 in film specifically.

Your arguments are so terrible.

Avatar post another stunner weekend tally at $48.5 million...and given that this soming weekend is MLK long weekend, you can expect to see it hover near that amount again, and end up siiting near $500 million come next Tuesday. Bye Bye TDK at domestic #2 on the next weekend, and Titanic by the end of the month....absolutely amazing!

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?view=main&yr=2010&wknd=02&p=.htm

The film is at $902 internationally, so I think it has a VERY strong chance of reaching $2 bln WW.
