Forums - General Discussion - Avatar is possibly the most beautiful CGI movie ever!

Just seen it in 3d.

Visually stunning... never seen anything like it

Action sequences... very good

Storyline... bit of a letdown, cliched and simplistic.

But a really good movie overall, will win a lot of technical oscars.

oh... and that leona lewis song at the end was trash.

Ah, the song.  If I was a reviewer I'd seriously have to consider docking a point for such a horrible, blatent attempt to repeat the success of Titanic's end credits song - all that effort to evoke another world, then a terrible song is shoved in your ears totally destroying the mood.  What is it with Hollywood and tacking a song on the end of credits?  Awful practise.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I gotta admit that that song took me right out of it. That will be the element of the movie that irrevocably dates it when nothing else would, mark my words.

Ugh.

That song made me wanna barf...I stayed for some possible end of credit stuff (Nothing better to do) and I listen to it all...

So I finally got to see it.

Initial reaction : Meh, 3d is awesome, story meh. Will probably not buy it/rent it again, because without the 3d you got a very bland movie.

A bit of useless trivia...
Celeen Dion heard the song, and really wanted to sing it for Titanic. So, she did a quick demo, and took it to Cameron and told him she wanted to do it for the movie.
He loved the song, and requested that she do it. She then went into the studio to record it, and after dozens of takes where she could not reproduce the quality of the demo, they decided to just go with the demo.
So the song as you hear it from her, is the demo vocals.

As overplayed as it was, "My Heart Will Go On" was both fitting and pretty classy. It was good for Titanic.

This Leona Lewis song sticks out like a gangrenous thumb.

Okay...I've moved past thinking that Avatar is going to break Titanic's record (Domestic), and say that it will, and it will do so much sooner than anyone anticipated...it's jsut a matter of how far it can go up...maybe $700 Million.

THE MOVIE DID $25.2 MILLION ON FRIDAY! It might top the last 2 weekends, and last week at the very least...wether it does or not...that's just unreal folks...totally unreal.

This is basically what my friends told my about the movie (in the form of sarcasm).

The movie jumped past $1 Bln WW this weekend...Titanic is next. It's funny...Cameron made jsut $75M off that film, as he gived up the rights to his % participation...looks like lightening will strike twice, as the guy is probably going to make $200-300 million off this film!

Oh...and it disappointed (ROFLOL) and acutally dropped 9.7% to 68.2 million this weekend....incredible!

“Avatar” becomes only the fifth film to cross the $1 billion mark, Hollywood.com said. Another Cameron film, 1997’s “Titanic” is the highest-grossing film ever with overall sales of $1.84 billion. Others which have reached the milestone are “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” ($1.13 billion), “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” ($1.06 billion) and “The Dark Knight” ($1 billion).

“It’s the fastest movie in history to break the $1 billion mark,” said Gitesh Pandya, editor of Box Office Guru. “We’ve never seen a movie make so much money so fast.”

“Avatar” will probably surpass “Return of the King” to rank No. 2 worldwide by the end of this week, giving Cameron the top two spots, Pandya said. To date, “Avatar” sales in the U.S. and Canada total $352.1 million and $670.2 million in international markets.
