Forums - Microsoft - Natal won't help to create better content, says Dyack

Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack is an opinionated kind of guy. He's made his feelings known
on quite a few subjects over the years, even picking a fight with NeoGAF over Too Human. Now he's saying his piece on Microsoft's Project Natal and it's not exactly laudatory.

Speaking to GamesIndustry about the advent of motion controllers for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Dyack hinted that although he's interested in new technologies, Silicon Knights may not be getting on board the motion control bandwagon.

"I'm always interested to see how new technologies turn out," he said. "I'm a big believer in software over hardware. Silicon Knights has always pretty much focused on what can we do as entertainers? I'm sure it's very possible to have success in those areas, but it's not something that I really look at and go 'yes, we'll definitely do something on that.'"

Dyack added further, "I know a lot of people have expressed excitement and that's great to see. We want to create games that are very content driven and tell great stories and I don't see how Natal is going to help me tell a better story or create better content."

It's worth noting that Microsoft seems focused on using Natal to bring more casual gamers to the Xbox fold, so the core-geared Silicon Knights may not be their target after all.

Dennis Dyack-- master of the obvious.

Yeah....

he also said that Too Human was the best game ever and would revolutionize RPGs on consoles so......I'm gonna take this with a grain of salt

Yeah, yeah, Natal may not be for you. Now go make Eternal Darkness 2. Dismissed.

Maybe it revolutionized what an RPG should not be on the consoles

It won't help make better content, that's right. The point is to allow the content you make be more accessible, or have better controls.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I agree on the content part, disagree on the history part (not that I think Natal can do shit, I just think games that try to have epic plots suck). I liked them more when they made good games (a long time ago). Right now it sounds like that article where the shovelware companies gave advices to Nintendo.

He actually says something to the effect of: "I don't see how Natal will help me make better content", so the thread title is a bit misleading.

Other than saying that though, I don't really have a strong feeling for Natal, as I don't know of any games that have been announced for it yet.

LOL. I thought Too Human was a decent game(I am a loot whore). But as far as content went, it was poop.
