Forums - Gaming - Anyone else getting tired of FPS?

Way too many FPS this gen with more of the same with little to no changes in an effort to make a quick buck. I liked last gen because even FPS's would stand out like when Halo: CE came out, then Tribes 2: Aerial Assault, KZ1. But then you had Fable1, FFX, FFXII, VP2, Ar Tonelico 1,2, Spiderman games, RE4, Clocktower, Fatal Frame, KOTOR,Splinter Cell games, MGS2-3,Jak and Daxter, Silent Hill 2,3, the room, etc. This Gen: Halo3, Halo3: ODST, KZ2, Resistance FOM, Resistance 2, Operation Flashpoint: dragon rising, L4D (although this last one was a breath of fresh air), Haze, Timeshift (interesting concept, poorly executed), Area 51, Wolfenstein, COD WAW, COD: MW, COD: MW2, and the list goes on and on and on.
I think Gears of War was the best thing to ever happen to the 360, since I don't own the system, I borrowed it just for that game and I would sleep over a friend's to do the co-op with him.
People can turn around and argue that they saw alot of rpg's last gen, which is true, but there were many offerings that were hits and not rpg's such as Midnight Club, GTA3 (the father of true console sandbox), metal gear series, splinter cell series, spiderman games, buncha platformers and adventure games etc.
Luckily 2010 seems to offer greatness with GOW3, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, WKC, Ar Tonelico3, The Last Rebellion, Resonance of Fate, GT5, 3D Dot Game Heroes, DI (not a fan, but i know some that are), Bayonetta (same opinion as DI), etc.
Sadly I know that if IW make MW3, even if it's mediocre at best SP and an MP that offers more of the same but tiny additions here and there, people will still eat it up.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Is it me or is has this question been asked every week for the past month now?

i used to like them before people really started taking them way too seriously.i stopped playing traditional fps last gen. ill play more unique ones like borderlands and red steel. but any of them that is war themed no longer appeals to me and i cant stand playing them online.

The problem is that FPS games are "it" right now. They've been hot for years. Until it hits a saturation point like the fighting genre or the platformer genre did, we're going to be hit with uninspired games that detract from the impact of the great ones. I admit it. I enjoyed Bioshock (but never beat it). I enjoyed Call of Duty 4. I enjoyed Metroid Prime (And I know it's not an FPS). But when a new game comes out for the genre every two weeks, it's hard to get excited about a new one.

I am just trying to avoid them to be honest. I am sick of FPS they have never been me favorite genre anyway.

I dont mind playing the odd one here and there but to e most FPS are the same. They dont feel no different to me. With a few exceptions.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I was until I got to play Killzone 2, which was a step up from all of the others I played. Then I got Left 4 Dead and that was a great game as well. And now with Borderlands, I am a happy FPS player. I think its people playing to many mediorce FPS games and not playing the good ones. I think you just need to be a little bit more selective in the titles you choose. Personally I am hoping for a big wave of TPS to come around that are like Gears of War, cause I personally prefer those.

I concur.

This.

I've played BC2 in the Ps3 beta...It's fun...but I don't play many FPS, and I usually don't play war games, so it's a change of pace for me mostly. Not to mention there are actual points of tactics involved, and not just mindless run around headshotting

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...
