OT: Good thing Sony makes TV's and other electronics. They have nothing to worry about

All of which they are currently losing money on, lol.

Sony need to try and get themselves out of the hole their in or else they'd be better putting their capital in the bank for a few years.

Well, if stores sell it for $299 and give all the money to Sony, maybe. But they keep some of that $299, so you have to add what they keep to the $36. Of course that $36 figure is pulled out of someone's ( )) , so it's just baloney unless you get an actual figure from Sony. How in the hell do they know the price Sony pays for parts? AND, remember, it's razor blade/ printer economics. They re-coop the lose after the consumer buys a few games/blu-rays, and after buying 10 or 20 games and 20 blu-rays, how much would they re-coop? Hell, they should have given the ps3's away...

How much is Sony selling it to the retailers for?

Also...the HUGE BF sales were all bundles...which had 2-3 games...

Um....isn't it 37 dollars per system? 336-299 right?

this has been posted 2 times before.....

actually they lose 36.01

If the 36 bucks is for manufacturing then I reckon that they lose about 60 bucks all told for every PS3 sold at retail

Advertising and Shipping dont come cheap.

Its a shame they arent profitable as I dont think any company will ever take the risk Sony did this gen ever again.

Why oh Why when companies take these huge risks do they always manage to screw up somehow.

Would it not be something like $45 on the hardware as the retailer has a 3% or $9 margin? Also if you count shipping costs of say $6 it would be about $51 per console and that would probably make more sense given they are unprofitable, right?

Mmm, it doesnt includes the transportation costs, but those will be down cause the Slim is smaller and you can transport more in the same route.
