I recall paying 50-60$ for games about 20 years ago (or 60€ = 400frs, but the dollar was higher than € equivalent at the time...).
So consider in inflation and all on 20 years... I'd say that games are pretty damn cheap nowadays... And no there was pratically no piracy back then, heck the internet didn't exist and all people used was carridges so not too easy to pirate...
If anything, Piracy has increased the market by making videogaming more affordable and when it becomes harder to DL in some countries due to gvmnts stepping in, all these people will have little choice but to actually buy games to get their fix!
