Forums - PC Discussion - Contoller/Console better for FPS than KB+Mouse/PC?!?

Tired argument.

1. If the game is playable, fun, and built around the specific input device, it doesn't matter.

2. Competitively, when everyone is using the same input device, it doesn't matter.

3. Game design, game design, game design.

Exactly.  I hate it when PC gamers try to play the "PC gamers are more skilled" or "PC gamers have the best experience" BS they usually do.

If you get the best players from both platforms, allow them time to learn the opposite platforms' controls, then let them do battle on the same platform using the same controls, they are equally skilled.

I'd go with DA any time. I actually cut my teeth on the original Unreal Tournament, dragging my AMD Duron PC with a 21" CRT monitor around to friend's homes for LAN parties. I was usually the best of the bunch. I prefer Dual Analog now though, it just feels more organic, like you are controlling a person who is swinging a gun around. KB+M for me now feels like playing a really fast game of Monkey Island, I'm just pointing and clicking, feels like I'm whipping up an Excel spreadsheet or something else menial.

how do you mean organic?

That's a tough one to describe. I'll give it my best though; analog sticks have "weight" to them, it takes time to swing your analog stick from left to right, just like it takes time to spin your body. Also, you can walk to run, and move between the two motions in a much more natural manner. More pressure = faster, less pressure = slower. You point down with your analog stick, your avatar points his gun down, it just feels "right". I don't know if that helps, but it's the best I can do.

Also your claim that you played Halo:CE multiplat is complete and utter bullshit. XBC was a system link tunneling device, I would know since I played almost every day. There was no way whatsoever so play Halo:CE cross plat so don't make up shit to make yourself look good.

Also, Raistline, would you care to comment on what I said about Halo PC and Halo Xbox never having any cross-platform play?

Sure I will comment on this. I was mistaken. I thought that it was able to to cross-platform. I played the original online and the other players claimed they were on the console. Most likely it was an excuse on thier part. It seems as though you have caught me with foot in mouth disease.

Well it was cross-platform with the Mac game... maybe they were on Macs and making excuses for why the PC gamers were whooping them?

Auto-aim is pretty much an admission by the dev that the controls aren't good enough without it. So what systems have auto-aim?

That said I always prefer fighters and platformers as well as most sports titles on consoles. Also any social or party game (duh). Oh an lets not forget railshooter where the Wii owns all.

But for FPS it is hilariously delusional not to see what even the developers themselves know.

That must be IT! Those damned MAC phreaks will do anything to make thier product look like it is better. Even though it is an overpriced pile of junk.

That FragFX controller looks like it could actually make FPS gaming worth while on the PS3. I may have to look into it.

I seem to recall Shadowrun being a game that allowed both PC and Xbox players to play together.

Yes also Q3 on Dreamcast allowed cross platform gaming for a while. Now the DC controller isn't DA but I think the result would be the same. I would always beat DC players when on PC and always lose to PC players when I was on DC.

On a different note, whatever happened to leaning in FPS? I want leaning back and I want it back now.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
