Forums - Sony - GameSpot defends Ratchet and Clank's 7.5

That's the best explanation I've ever seen for why games get certain scores.

Doesn't matter, Gamespot has lost most of their credibility in my eyes anyways.

Always notice that they're always the one giving the different score?

The only reason Sakurai allowed Snake is because he was already a clone

Wii Friend Code: 2854 9908 3926 2816

This is why Gamespot is my favorite review source. They tell it like it is.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Very good answer. That's how a '10' should be handled.

Still, I don't read Gamespot. Why? Because they hardly cover Nintendo stuff at all. Most of the time, on the frontpage there are maybe 2 Wii games mentioned vs. 19 Xbox360 games and 21 for the PS3.

Given the marketshares and number of games being released on each platform, that's a preselection I consider biased.

@zackblue

Congratulations your in love with the game. Right now I am in love with Blue Dragon. However I must recognize that the game I am playing is not in my preferred genre. So I would defer judgment as to how it stacks in the genre to the dedicated fans, and the dedicated reviewers.

I'm with Zackblue on this, i have never played a ratchet game before and this is my second platformer ever and i'm loving the game. I have everything in the game, except for a couple skill points, and once i get those i will play the game all over again, it is just that good. I've already beaten the game twice, almost finished my third time.

The game is atleast a 9/10, in some parts the camera needs some work, but other then that the game is pretty much perfect. Plus once you get a certain amount of skill points you can unlock commentary for certain parts of the game with various people that work at Insomniac. If they had online stuff it would of been a 9.5/10.

Poor explanation, giving Ratchet and Clank: TOD and Conan both a 7.5. Conan simply isn't in the same league as a PS2 game like God of War 2 by a long shot, however Ratchet and Clank: TOD is actually a solid improvement over earlier R&C games for the PS2 especially in term of visuals, presentation and this combined with improved weapons. For these games to score identically by the same review source seems like a grave misjudgement and actually IMO tastes of dishonesty.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

That's the thing. "Visuals and preentation" are purely aesthetic aspects of the game. The gameplay is basically the same as it was in the first four R&C games. They gave it a 7.5 because in the reviewer's opinion, the game just didn't do enough that's "new."

For those of you playing ToD as your first R&C game, go fetch either Going Commando or Up Your Arsenal for the PS2. It's basically the exact same game with worse graphics. Then you'll see why Gamespot gave the former the score it did.

And either way, the article writer's point in singling out the R&C review was to say that reviews are subjective, to an extent. Getting all up in arms if you disagree with a review is a silly thing to do.

How can you give conan a 7.5? As well?

@dodoece

Blue dragon was given the same score with all the reviewers. Ratchet was not, Its a AAA game, and gamespot blows it off by dropping the score.
