Forums - Gaming Discussion - Halo: Reach Graphics Engine - Is it all that it's cracked up to be?

halo:reach is shaping up to be a really good looking game, but for now, it's not at the same level as killzone 2 or uncharted 2 (for those who said that kz2 didn't have epic battles, the bridge battle it's pretty massive and it really feels like a war)...

but if you 360 fan, think that this game looks better than u2 or kz2, then you should know that both games are one from february 2009 and the other one is from october 2009...and halo:reach is set to launch in fall 2010...by that time, all consoles will have better looking games (mass effect 2, heavy rain, god of war 3...) so it's pretty pointless to compare a 2010 game with a 2009 game, it's POINT-LESS because 1 year of difference in technology it's a decade in real time.

To me it is amazing how many playstation fans are concerned about HALO. Nearly every thread HALO related is infiltrated by the sony defense force.

Clearly HALO REACH is going to be a very very good game. Easily the biggest of 2010.
The graphics will be on par with killzone 2 and they gameplay will be way better, like all halo games.

Red = I disagree, Reach will be neither the best looking for 360.

Blue =  I agree, Halo is Halo after all and has an amazing and addictive gameplay.

2010 Must to buy.

Graphics...yawn.

Is a Van Gogh more aesthetically pleasing than a Pollack? Is Frank Lloyd Wright's style better than Frank Gehry? Does the enjoyment you get out of the gameplay and artistic style of the game you purchased satisfy you? Then who cares if one is "better" than the other. Honestly this whole "whose dick is bigger" argument is getting old. I love Uncharted 2 because the gameplay, in my opinion, is outstanding. The graphics only make it easier to stare at Nate's ass for longer periods of time (which counts for something). Halo has a distinct artistic style, that frankly would look ridiculous in the "real-life" graphics setting of Uncharted 2 or the "technically gorgeous but sterile" setting of KZ2.

And yes these are my opinions.

I said the same thing in one of these threads a few weeks ago and basically got told to GTFO (by certain people posting in this thread no less). Just giving you the heads up because I agree with you.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

there sales r going down so they just making shit up to try to sell more consoles.

You know a 360 game is looking when the Sony defense force is out in full strength. I knew the trailer was going to be good I had no idea it was going to be this good.

I'd say ignore some of the PR you hear, from any company. My feelings.........

- Did the Reach trailer look as good as Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2? No.

- Is the game still heavily in development? Yes.

- Does it have to look as good as PS3 games to warrant a purchase, or be amazing? Absolutely not.

- Is it fair to put a game with split-screen co-op in the same boat as games without it? No.

- Am I excited for it, despite the negative backlash it seems to have garnered? Hell-to-the-YEAH!

End of the day, it doesn't have to look like PS3 exclusives, it just has to be a good game, which I'm certain it will be!

Good post, I agree

EMULATION is the past.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

So why are people jumping on Aaron Greenberg for hyping the graphics of Halo: Reach where he says it'll look better than Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 when THERE IS NO RELIABLE QUOTE WHERE HE DID THAT???

Twizzler should win some kind of an awesome award for his post.

Now before starting, I just wanna say that unlike many of you, I really liked the Reach trailer and I might just buy a 360 for it. But as far as I can remember, Bungie has been hyping up Halo: Reach's graphics, by making bold statements such as the game will look equal to or better than Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 (see source: http://shabz666.wordpress.com/2009/07/16/aaron-greenberg-on-halo-reach/ ). But from what I saw, the trailer (which was shot with the Reach engine) looked great and might just be the best looking 360 game since GoW2, however, it pales in comparison to Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2. Anyone agree with me, or am I just plain wrong here?

We can't make a comparison yet until we get some actual gameplay. Going by Halo experience I don't think it will be the best looking game on the 360 because Bungie focuses on gameplay then graphics. I think Reach will be a beautiful game but not that best. And what about Mass Effect 2 people? That game is looking amazing. Put it in the graphics discussion.

Second by elimination is seems you are saying Gears of War 2 pales in comparison to KZ2 and Uncharted 2 so if thats the case yes you are plain wrong. Gears 2 is a beautiful game, KZ2 and U2 might be slightly ahead but thats it.

Not trying to sound biased but from a technical standpoint, especially Uncharted 2, they are well ahead of Gears 2.

I don't care if they are "technically" ahead by a million miles. I'm going by what my eyes tell me. Graphics are what you see nothing more. Lets not try to sound smart and scientific about every little aspect of a game.
