Forums - Gaming - Why did Bayonetta fail in Japan?

Yes not that bad sales but after playing the demo, I wonder why it didin't do as much as games like Devil May Cry 1 did on Ps2 time..

It got perfect score from Famitsu..

It is puplished by Sega and Devil May Cry makers made it = should mean much in Japan.

It was released at holidays..

It has hot chick as main character..

Very weird...I was expecting much from this.

Because the PS3 version was sloppy, most likely.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

It's going to do similar -probably a bit less- to what DMC4 (a sequel with more name, compared to a new IP) did. How in the world is that failing?

Yeah, PS3 version wasn't great, and 360 isn't popular in Japan. 90k for a multiplatform in Japan is fantastic.

Lets see how this fares in the West first

What Seece and Zexen said, with added input from me is... Since the ps3 was fixed by sony them selves for the NA/EU/UK version sales might be equel or better then japans sales, however i think the real downer is the fact the main character isn't a pretty boy, the japanese love there pretty boys...

the 360 got the perfect score from Famitsu. The PS3 game got a 38/40. Besides, its doing well. 200k is far from terrible in Japan.

Because Famitsu gave the PS3 version lower the 360 so the Japanese buyers were like "NO WAY" and they didn't want to buy an Xbox to play the superior version. With FFXII Japanese PS3 owners know it's quality and there's no other systems to buy it own.

200k in Japan (for a month or so) isn't a failure. Its probably in the top#20 best selling PS3 lifetime titles in Japan.

300k isn't bad. Maybe Sega even already broke even with the japanese sales and all the western sales will be pure profit. It makes sense since companies gets more money for each copy un Japan

The perfect score from Famitsu means nothing. Review scores and sales are completely unrelated, and Clover/Platinum games in particular always get amazing reviews and horrible sales. Viewtiful Joe, Okami, MadWorld...
