I have been watching this game for years now and it appears to be near in the future. It was picked up by 505 games Dec 1 and  should be coming out April 2010. Yeah i know its probably going to be hard to pick it up for most with all the other releases next march and april, but for me its at the top of my list. 

For those of you that don't know what it is. 

"Backbreaker breaks the mold of traditional football video games with realistic, physics-based motion AI, crisp high-definition graphics and a camera angle that follows the perspective of the player. At its core, Backbreaker is full-on 11-versus-11 competitive play, and also includes online multiplayer and split-screen multiplayer modes. In addition, the game features total team customization including a fully featured logo editor.

The game welcomes newcomers to the genre with its intuitive pick-up-and-play Arcade Mode control scheme, while seasoned players can go head-to-head in the game's demanding Pro Mode that turns off AI and visual assists."

"Animation middleware developer NaturalMotion says that Backbreaker, its first foray into game development, will see a spring 2010 release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 thanks to publisher 505 Games.

NaturalMotion is best known for the Morpheme, Endorphin and Euphoria tools, but announced the animation-intensive football titleBackbreaker in 2007. The game makes use of "motion synthesis engine" Euphoria, promising tackles that are calculated dynamically rather than relying on pre-generated animations. 

"Backbreaker is about being on the field and in the action," says NaturalMotion CEO Torsten Reil. "Through the use of Euphoria, we are able to create an experience that is truly interactive and different every time."

The game will offer 11-versus-11 competitive play, online multiplayer and split-screen multiplayer modes. Players can customize their teams via a logo-editor feature."

Backbreaker should be coming out to a price point of 49.99 for the ps3/360 according to ebgames but i don't know if that was just if you buy it now.

Huh. I thought Backbreaker was just a tech-demo for Euphoria itself, and that it had been canned after Euphoria took off

But its good to see some fresh blood in the football sphere.

Well with total team customization you might be able to make your favorite nfl teams as well, if you want to put the time in. 

well, they could make an official canadian football league version.. At least it would have all 6 real teams

EA owns the rights to AFL (arena football league) and the NFL, so I see no other option other than a black college football game... Which was made a failed horribly due to quality. ANd sales. Well, everything about it, lol.

The game does look amazing. I will be strapped for cash during that time, but who knows. I have the iPhone minigame and it rules, so hopefully it translates to consoles as good as the portable version did to iPhone.
