Forums - Sony - PSP game doesn't look as good as the PS3. Kotaku writer actually surprised?

Valkyria Chronicles 2 Screens Get Lost In The Haze

Look, I love Valkyria Chronicles. And am really looking forward to this sequel. And am all for honest screenshots. But seeing a publisher release screens of this quality puts a bit of a dampener on things.

Before you ask, yes, these are proper screenshots, not magazine scans.

I'm just stunned. I thought Mr. Plunkett was just a graphics whore when it came to the Wii. But it seems that he's a graphics whore in general. That does not excuse it, since I hate graphics whoring on principle. I just find it a bit weird that Little Big Planet would get a pass, but this, a cell shaded game, should get called on for having lesser graphics than the HD version.

And he actually thinks we would mistake those pictures for magazine scans? This is how you can tell graphics whores don't actually look at graphics in detail, just the whole picture. If Plunkett did pay attention to detail, he would know magazine scans have telltale dots.

That game looks excellent on the PSP. And the haze is only in the first few pics, which look like they are from one area, which likely means that's a deliberate effect, not bad graphics.

Incdidentally, congratulations on the PSP reacing 50 million systems. It really could reach 60 million or more in its lifetime.

So what, if the man doesn't like the graphics he doesn't like em. If he only cared about stories or gameplay would he be a story whore or gameplay whore?

TNK...your title mishap wasnt that serious dude lol :)

It's not disliking the graphics. He's claiming the graphics are so bad, you can mistake them for a magazine scan. That's just not what the graphics look like. One is a personal taste, and the other is a claim of resemblance.

true because there was a art style in the game, and the effect it's not the same given PSP hardware restrictions, VC effect it's not give.

gameplay remained the same even simplified from the ps3 VC.

I should also reply to your second part. Graphics whores put how detailed they think the graphics should be over just about everything else, including the art direction, how discinct everything lookes, and other things that are still visually related. I know this because Twilight Princess overall had stronger graphics than Resident Evil 4, but because the art direction didn't go the detailed route, reviewers claimed the graphics weren't as good.

Except you said you thought he was "just a graphics whore" before even bringing that up. Regardless he thinks they look bad, thats his opinion and you really have no basis to call him out on such. It's funny because I was on kotaku and clicked on the pictures and didn't read the article and thought they looked good, but then again im not him so whatever.

I did just address that in another comment. His graphics whoring is to ignore that the overall look and art direction are the same, and declare the game looks like something it doesn't. There is a difference.
