I'm thinking of buying a 46" Samsung LED in February with my tax return.

Which do you all think is better though in reality? Is the LED tvs really worth more than the equivalent LCD models?

LED, LCD, Plasma:

1. LED tvs are better when it comes to contrast ratio to LCD.
   1. If you can get one that is completely back-lit by LED lights, they can turn on and off individually (not at your control of course)
      
      1. Produces deeper blacks.
   2. Other LED tvs (not entirely back-lit) have them around the outside but can still reach higher contrast ratios than LCDs.
   3. LED lights tend to last longer than regular bulbs.
      1. Though bulbs in LCDs are pretty hardy to begin with.
   4. Pretty much all LEDS are 120 Hz and go higher
   5. Downside:
      1. Expensive
      2. Don't always come with older inputs (like composit)
2. Most of LCDs are only 60Hz (but go up to 240 Hz).
   1. For gaming you'll want to go with at least 120 Hz.
   2. Downside:
      1. Lowest Contrast ratios on average
      2. More expensive to get higher Hz
      3. On 120 Hz or higher, the screen is reflective
3. IMO I'd go with Plasma tvs ( in fact I did).
   1. Plasma tvs are generally cheaper for bigger sizes
   2. They are at least 420 Hz
   3. Contrast rations are 80,000+ (some as high as 3million).
   4. Downside:
      1. They put off a lot of heat
      2. They are reflective (having a glass finish, looks nice though).
      3. They can get temporary burn in on bright colors,
         1. But it is temporary (usually goes away in a few seconds)
         2. Panasonic tvs have a special option to run a white bar across the screen to remove any.

Nice info and pretty much what I've been reading tonight. Still though for the price difference, I'm thinking a quality LCD is the way to go.

EDIT: I can't seem to find 46" plasmas. Only LCDs.
