Forums - Sony - Rumour: FFXIII = 10, 9, 10, 10 (39/40) from Famitsu

Some of the poster here claiming there opinions = facts. sad really.
Just because they don't like certain games it means that it's a crappy game.

I don't understand...so no one is allowed to like a game more than another? or dislike a game all together? Because as far as I know, video game reviews and scores are always a matter of opinnion. Sure, you could tell me that a game like Uncharted 2 is great. But what if I believe the old E.T on Nintendo was better?

That's also the thing, everyone here thinks I'm fliping out or something. I really don't care...like I said, the only thing this would do is tarnish Famitsu's reputation. It wouldn't make the game any less spectacular, and it sure as hell wont affect scores.

But don't go calling those game crap or shitty games just because you don't like it. I played and like nintendogs and I think it's one of the great games out there.

Ok fine. I'll just leave it at those games didn't appeal to me. But if this score does turn out to be true, I wont take Famitsu's word for much anymore. Like I said earlier in the thread, I'm not expecting much more than a 9-9.5 from Western reviewers, but this is Famitsu.

None of you want to take my word, it's cool. Just wait till FFXIII comes out. Then go out and buy Bayonetta. When you have finished playing both, tell me which one was the better game.

@Darth - I'm not having a meltdown!!! The caps are supposed to emphasize what I am trying to say. In all truth, the only thing this score would do is tarnish Famitsu's credibility in my eyes.

@Aragod - As you're signature undoubtably proves.

Ofcourse, In my eyes FFXIII will be a better game because I am biased for anything JRPG and let alone final fantasy. I also think that it desrved a score of 40.

I really don't care what you think about Famitsu or their scoring system. (In general I really don't give crap about reviews because I do my own research). My only problem is that you called those 3 shitty games and it seems you got what I am trying to say so peace.

What!? I am getting confused now. I don't have problems with people disliking the games they have every right to do so. I just have problems with people saying shitty or bad stuff about games that they don't like because there are better ways in telling that you don't like a game so if you think the old ET is a better than Uncharted 2 then kudos to you because I don't have any problem with that. Just like if famitsu thinks Bayonetta is a better game than FFXIII then I don't give a shit. Simple as that, and btw what you just said can also be applied to you as well so Famitsu isn't allowed to like a game more than another? or disliked them all together? but that's not my problem with you. Just like to point that out.

nono, in that case, I completely agree with you. I thought you had a problem with the fact that I disliked those games. But you just have a problem with the way I put it, which I agree, was far from mature.

39/40 is good by itself, but it's shitty compared to Nintendogs, Bayonetta and that goddamn lolhunter.

39/40 for FF XIII is bullshit. 40/40 or bust.

Oh get over yourself.  Like Famitsu cares what you would think anyways.  I agree they throw out perfect scores nowadays carelessly, but that doesn't give you the right to troll other games based on your PERCEPTION of this one.  Maybe after you play it your rant will mean a little more... of course probably not as it was so childishly and primitively put together.

I played its demo (didn't understand anything basically but the battle system ruled).

And it's less my perception of FF XIII, but more perception of games like lolhunter.

So can you tell me what the story was about, if it was good or not, all the sidequests it had, minigames, the ending and plot twists, the battle mechanics, how much grinding it required, level up system, etc? It's ridiculous how many of you believe that FFXIII deserves a perfect score without even playing the full game.

And it's just a rumor, but if it turns out to be true, a 39/40 is still an amazing score. And stop comparing it to Bayonetta and Nintendogs. They're completely different genres. The reason Bayonetta got a perfect score is because it offered a fresh and deeper combat system than its competitors, and it also, apparently, has a great story. Bayonetta has been getting a lot of praise from numerious publications:

EDGE: 10/10

Eurogamer: 9/10

Gamersyde: "The new reigning king of the modern Beat'Em All genre"

VGArabia: "Bayonetta puts all other action games to shame"

GamerLimit: E3 Game of the Show

If it makes you feel better, FFXIII outscored the PS3 version of Bayonetta.

Thats why the review system is broken in our industry, as well as them reviewing for ad money and in order to push their views on others.

but take for example a not so great movie, like jet li's THE ONE and compare it to an excellent movie like sisterhood of traveling pants.  (have no idea, just tried thinking of some movie i think got great reviews)  I'm sure traveling pants is a better movie, but i would never want to see it, and would enjoy the one over it a billion times.

but in our video game industry traveling pants woudl get a 6 or something and be called casual shovelware shit because its not hte type of game that our reviewers like.  not saying The One would get a 9+ or anything, but it woudl definately be higher rated than some casual junk.

So for your example that is bullshit.  You may like E.T. more than uncharted 2, but it is not a better game.  Hell I can think of 50 games I would rather play than uncharted 1 again (havne't played 2), but i appreciate uncharted 1's game and would not rate it bad out of me just not enjoying that game.  It just wasn't for me, but like when rating movies, you can't rate an action movie always higher than a female drama due to your tastes.  you have to give them an honest review for how good they are and not your own OPINION.  Its us readers job to READ your review and figure out if it is our tastes or not, not having you shove your tastes down our throat.

You have a good point there, but it's somewhat tricky. I also didn't care so much for Uncharted 1 (I could also think of 50+ games I'd rather play) but I can appreciate the game, and wouldn't rate it badly because of that. At the same time, reviews are only opinions, one person may believe a game is a 60/100 and another believes its 95/100. Which one is right? And it's not just from taste bias, that's is how they truly feel. If 1 million people think a game is rated 60/100 and 50 think it is rated 95/100, who's right? Everyone is right, a review is based on your own opinions and experiences. Whether you appreciate what the game is trying to do or not is another matter.

I've said this before, but listening to reviewers is tricky, you essentially need to find reviewers who have similar 'tastes' to your own, and not venture much beyond that. There is no universal reviewing system, and I think such a think is impossible anyways.

All in all, it would be nice if people could rate games the way you describe, but that's kind of unfeasible. This is why I completely ignore metacritic scores, and rate games on my own.

It's a great score and no score in the world is going to dissuade those who already are bent on getting the game or that are FF fans, but as it is, it's just a rumour still ;)

I just found it funny that in a previous rumour that put the score over 40, or over the rating scale, just as some magazines did for SMG and Uncharted2, everyone was quick to dismiss it, but now, a rumour put's the score under 40, and everyone considers it to be true. Double standarts are so funny :P

Sorry, but how exactly is that a double standard?

Because when people apply two different criteria to the same thing, rumours in this case, it's called double standarts?
