Avatar will boost 3DTV sales. Wait and see.

Like the Matrix did for DVD?

I think Avatar will do more than what Matrix did for DVD. Look at the movie total gross (worldwide) up until now : more than 1 billion dollars. That movie is a beast. Imagine when the 3D blu-ray is out...

Hmmm, then it might also spur sales of bog stardard blu-rays as well
(Of course, blu-ray sales are already doing OK when compared to DVDs at the same point in their life-cycle, despite what many people think)

I think Sony is a great company because they want to move FORWARD. Not be stuck in the past with DVDs, Semi-HD, or whatever. Sony is a great company that has contributed a lot to all the entertainment forms you enjoy today. Sony should be getting nothing else than credit for what they have done for electronic devices and the evolution in electronics. I am baffled that someone criticizes Sony for trying to think forward.
edit: Sony has learned a lot from PS3, they have learned that in the end moving forward is a good thing.. What would happen if all companies stopped innovating and got stuck in the past? You'll see that in a couple of years, Blu-ray will be on everyones lips and that slow companies will follow suit.

It's true that it might not seem wise for Sony to make big moves after the problems that have plagued the PS3 (something that certainly didn't go to plan), but I'm glad someone out there is innovating.

So a global Electronics manufacturer should stop competing with other global Electronics manufacturers?. It's what you're saying. Sony are a huge conglomerate which contains dozens of companies. The playstation business makes up about 8% of Sony.

How on Earth did you come to the conclusion that that is what I was saying? Really, I want to know what I said that could make you draw that conclusion. I say that it's good that someone is innovating (while conceeding that the company that innovated has had a few unsuccessful years with one of its products), and you turn it into that? Good grief!
