Forums - Microsoft - Keighley: Halo Reach will be a huge leap forward

The first in-game footage of Halo Reach will be shown at this year’s Video Game Awards. Geoff Keighley, one of the few people who got a chance to see the trailer before the debut, was very excited by what he saw. He made the following statement on the latest Major Nelson podcast:

At the VGAs, we actually go down on to the Planet Reach and see this game for the first time. It’s all going to be in-game stuff. This is not CG. This is not live-action like all the kids on twitter are speculating. You will get a first glimpse at the world of Reach, which is phenomenal. I think it’s going to be the biggest game of next year by far. Folks love ODST and though it was great but when people see the huge leap forward Bungie is taking with Reach, I don’t know if you seen it yet, but everyone that I talked to that’s been on the team and seen it is incredibly excited about that time.

The Video Game Awards will air on December 12th at 8:00 PM. Halo Reach will be released next fall exclusively on the Xbox 360.

Figured I'd start the machine a little early on VGChartz for Reach.  I wonder if Geoff had such terrible grammar or if that was in the voice to text translations :)  I hope he is talking about gameplay and not just graphics.

Geoff normally tells it like it is. I believe him.

Are we going to see a graphical 360 beast? I wonder because he specifically says, "This is not CG." Or maybe he's just trying to emphasize that what will be shown is going to be in-game and not cut scenes. None the less I'm excited to see this "leap forward" Bungie has made.

Oh wow I just realized this is only a few days away too. Wasn't it just Thanksgiving like yesterday or something.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

It will probably not be in-game footage in the sense that it will be what players see during gameplay, but it will be done using the game's rendering engine.

Considering that I love Bungies gameplay, a step forward in graphics will be like the icing on a cake! I have a feeling that for most of the new year I'll be dreaming the Halo theme song as the anticipation for this game rises ha ha ha

What are your expectations for the visuals? You think Gears level or what? I know it's not all that matters, I'm reminded of that every time I play CE. I'm just curious now though.

Most likely, since this game uses a brand new engine which is supposed to take full advantage of the Xbox 360 hardware, as Halo 3's engine is, if I'm not mistaken, meant for the original Xbox.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

They will be pleasing to the eye with Halo's usual style.  Colorful and bright.  Expect some better modelling and some nicer environments with the already stellar lighting system.

Then again, remember the Halo 3 E3 trailer, years ago. It used the game's engine and had Master Chief standing on a collapsing cliff with Banshees flying overhead. It was so awe inspiring that I STILL hace it on my 360 hard drive.

The actual game was great, but very different.

I don't know...the game looks pretty close to the E3 trailer. the events may have been different but it is in game engine cleaned up a bit...
