Forums - Sony - will a ps3 game enter the top 50 sales of all time other than gt5?

was just browsing the sales for all games on any system, and realized its mostly nintendo with a few ps1 and ps2 sprinkiled in with pc and the lone halo 3. my question is will any game on ps3 break into the top 50? will gt5 even make it in with reach and other game coming out itl only be harder to get into the top 50, theres not a lot of other franchises out there for ps3, ff13 is multiplat now so its sales will be divided, versus will prolly be more niche, agent is the only other possibilty on the horizon, but what do you guys think?

Final Fantasy 13

There's a couple of Final Fantasy games in the top 50 list from past generations, as well as GT games. So there's a reasonable chance that one of the 3 FF games coming to PS3 will crack the top 50. And as long as GT5 gets into the 9 millions it will be in the top 50 for a while.

Other than those 2, unless Uncharted 3 really blows people's minds, or KZ3 does become the Halo killer that some deluded people thought KZ2 would be, I don't see much on the PS3 horizon to worry the top 50 list.

It's almost impossible lol. Ps3 gamers are probably the most ununified gamers out there when it comes to game preference. While there are the must-haves for wii and 360, ps3 doesn't seem to have a true "must-have" that the vast majority of its owners agree upon.

360 has gears and halo while wii has the ninty titles.

I completely agree with  you, titles that have sold very well in PS1 and PS2 are FF GT and GTA. If none of these game make it, it's hard to think that another game will.

To me, that's what's always made PlayStation, well......PlayStation. They've always just had a massive variety and the PS3 is continuing such a trait.

Ya, I agree but it isn't great for profits. The ps3 would need a userbase like that of the ps1 and ps2 to have a game break the top 50 while even the old xbox was able to have such a breakthough game lol.

I wouldn't even say either Xbox has a game that rises to the level of "vast majority think it's a must have". XB's biggest game was Halo 2 and it sold to about 1/3 of the install base. That's a significant minority, not a vast majority. Same with 360 and Halo 3 / Gears, less than 1/3 and 1/6 of the user base respectively.

Best selling Wii game that isn't bundled with 90% of all consoles sold? Wii Play, at 24 million sold (still less than a majority let alone a vast one).

This is really where the tie ration / attach rate stat really comes in handy.

What you have are core franchises associated with each company that sell to the dedicated fans. the PS franchises are GT, GTA and FF. GTA IV didin't quite fire on all cylinders for either system (though combined between 360 and PS3 has achieved excellent sales) in comparison with it's previous PS2 titles. that only leaves FF and GT among the PS franchises that live in the top 50. Therefore it isn't surprising that we haven't seen a PS3 title hit the top 50 when 2 of the 3 PS mainstays haven't showed up (GT5P notwithstanding).

Interesting that despite MGS being much loved it has never reached the stellar sales heights of those main 3 franchises. Makes MGS 4 sales look pretty danmed good actually when the best selling MGS "only" managed 5.59 million.

Dude, 30% attach ratio deserves to be called "must-have". I'm also going by logical reasoning here not completely unreachable statistics. 50% attach ration is such a statistic especially when you consider the fact that many people have had multiple systems but only one copy of the game. The userbase isn't exactly=consoles sold.

There's no way FFXIII is making it up there. The barrier is going to be over 8 million soon (higher than FFX), and rising. Honestly, Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) probably has a better shot, which is nil.

Definite new entrants next year will be Modern Warfare 2 (360), Wii Sports Resort, Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver, New Super Mario Bros Wii, and Wii Fit Plus. Pokemon Platinum may creep up above 8mil later on. The barrier will only get higher as Nintendo releases more major hits for the DS / Wii, I imagine they have at least a handful left in them.

edit: Also, Mario Galaxy (Wii), CoD4 (360), and Super Mario 64 (DS) are still selling. In 2 years, the minimum may be higher than 8.4mil (Halo 2) just from the titles I've mentioned. That's definitely too high for any traditional PS3 titles we know of, besides GT. Unless Sony comes with a surprise hit, GT5 will be on its own.

Avoid terms like "vast majority" then.
