Forums - Sony - DVD/BR Region Free?

I've always thought that you could watch Blu Ray and DVDs fron any part of the world on you PS3, that it was region free. But is that only for games? Never really tried importing stuff before, but my girl bought a DVD from Region 1 (we're Region 2), and it says it dosen't support the region or smthn.

Is there a way to bypass this or a fix of some sort?

Yep, only PS3 games are region free, not Blu-Ray or DVD.

Some DVD players can read any kind of DVD.

I see.. oh well. We'll have to stream it PC - PS3 then i guess. Thanks for the info.

I was able to play BR movies from France on my PS3. So I am not 100% on sure how Blu-Ray works. DVDs I know for a fact are region locked, but BR might be a hit or miss. *shrugs*

What's the point of region locking?

Only the games. like stated before the rest are region locked.

Copy the DVD as an ISO image and burn(Write) the copied DVD.... Burned DVD's doesn't have region lock.

Ah.. thats true. I could do a copy of it. Thanks! But wouldn't that make me a pirate? And all of VGC would hate me for it :D

on your PC you can only change your region code for the drive a few times, then it's locked (well there is a work arround but that's not official either).
