Forums - PC - Running Older games on Windows 7

Does your PC have a processor that supports XP virtualization? If so, then enable it in your BIOS and try that.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I've been dual booting since I picked up Windows 7.

I haven't tried a lot of games, but Half-Life 1 has a weird flickering issue, Sim City 4 seemed to run okay, Starcraft has weird colors, Age of Empires 2 (and expansion) have weird colors and even the player colors aren't right (if you play in an 8 player game, a few of the players will have the same color).

Also, I'd rather have my display settings in Windows 7 in a lower resolution than my CRT monitor's max resolution of 1600x1200, but the latest Nvidia driver (I own an 8800gt) doesn't have any image stretching so if I decrease the resolution, the image just gets smaller and a black border takes up most of the screen so I'm using an older Nvidia driver that still has this feature. Also, despite V-Sync being off, games on Windows 7 still seem to be capped at my refresh rate.

I'm surprised nobody has asked this-- what games are you trying to run?

Well Diablo 2 Has issues... Warcraft 3 works fine so far... Quake 2 i got it to work Sort of(Small box shape of the game screen in the middle of a black background)... Anyone have any suggestions for running Diablo 2 Lod without the Rainbow colors?

@IllegalPaladin

Yea I got those same problems. The HUGE black screen.

Yea, I'm using an older driver that still has the stretching feature. I guess there might have been something wrong with it and they took it out of the driver to work on it. I don't know if it's being included again or not.

Otherwise, I believe the driver update I'm using on Windows 7 (x64 version) is 182.50.

IllegalPaladin, I assume you have an NVIDIA card since you stated that the driver version is 182.50. Try looking on their website. There's beta drivers for the notebooks (195.55 driver; I haven't any issues using it besides not being able to turn up or down the screen brightness), and a 196 driver for desktops.

I REALLY want to play the Sonic CD game I had from Windows 98, though. That game owns. It's not able to run fully because the installation files aren't compatible with the new hardware/OS (Windows 7). It's been like that since I got my first laptop that ran Windows XP.

Yes, I said that in my first post in the thread lol. Also, I said that I was using this older one because apparently they took out the stretching in the latest firmware I had at the time (whatever it was a few months ago) and through finally finding a forum thread that had people talking about the issue, I finally found a link to an older driver that did have stretching.
