Forums - Sony - killzone 3 feature request.....

I want a longer story line, dont need no coop. I want to see how gorgeous the game is in full screen so screw that. Split screen for racing games is ok tho..

Around the Network

I think a level and game type editor (similar to the one in halo 3 but better), and a cinema mode (something similar to the one in uncharted 2) along with online and offline co-op and a horde mode would be great

What I'd like for them to keep from Killzone 2:

  • The controls. Pre-patch controls were somewhat cumbersome, given the delay, but post-patch controls kept the heavy feel of the previous controls while giving you better accuracy.  It was nice blend of the original controls and Call of Duty's controls, and I thought they were great.

  • The objective based multiplayer, seemless rotating rounds, and multiplayer classes, though obviously improving them overall (balance, balance, balance!).

  • The general atmosphere, great animations, and clever AI, all of which made a giant room full of Helghast who want to kill you something to look forward too.

What I'd like for them to add to or improve upon in Killzone 3:

  • Co-op!  Killzone 2 was practically made for co-op.  It's ommission was rather odd given the design of the campaign.  At the very least online co-op is a must for the sequel.

  • Give the game a decent story.  They've built up a rather rich history of the Killzone universe via the backstories on Killzone.com, but they ignored almost all of thatin the actual game.  The plot was incredibly simple, providing you with litte more than a reason to head to the next battle.  Sometimes they didn't even give you that!  They should deepen the narrative, provided a more mature, serious story, akin to Half-life 2 or Final Fantasy XII (ignoring Vaan).  Giving us documents to find throughout the game that would give us insight into the minds of the Helghast ala the Resistance series would be nice as well.
  • A more mature cast, with decent voice actors to represent them.  The Legion are supposed to be the best unit in the entire ISA invading force, yet they act like a bunch of cocky rookies who just want to shoot shit.   I expected them to be serious, battle hardened soldiers worthy of the position they held.  Something along the lines of Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings.    Stoic men who lead through example,  and who truly are some of the best fighters alive.  People we might actually look up to.  Instead we got your typical assholes ripped straight from countless 80s action flicks.  But I guess that's what most people want, right?  -_-
  • More scripted events.  They need to design a few more "OMG!" moments to go along with the normal killboxes.  They have great AI, and that's shown through some of the epic battles later in the game, but they need a few more jaw-dropping, scripted "wow!" moments ala Uncharted 2 and Call of Duty MW/MW2.  They tried to do this to a degree in Killzone 2, for example when the building collapses halfway through the first level, but they didn't really draw you in to such events.  I had a friend who shot the building up a bit, then turned around to look for a door so he could get to the next area.  He missed the thing actual collapse!  Which is quite different from a similar scene in Uncharted 2, in which there's no way you could ever miss what's happening since you're in the building going down. Better scripted sequences improve the game by making it more exciting, and by improving the pacing, giving you a few set pieces to marvel at in between all the shooting. The lack of such set pieces is probably why some felt the singleplayer was somewhat boring compared to Call of Duty 4.
  • More locations.  Killzone 2 lacked the environmental variety of the first.  I know Helghan is a wateland planet, but I'd love to see areas like the Park from the first Killzone rendered via Guerilla's engine.  Go back to Vekta for at least part of Killzone 3!  Give us something besides gray and brown!  You guys have some amazing artists, and can make a grey wasteland look beautiful, but let us see a forest or something!
  • Attack dogs!  Guerrilla has some crazy character designs, and it's a shame one of the coolest units from Killzone: Liberation didn't make it into Killzone 2.  I'd love to see these plus other units make a return for Killzone 3.  Attack dogs running at you rendered via Guerrilla's ever improving engine sure would be a sight to behold.
  • Handicapping and/or gibbing.  One of the things Killzone 2 has over other shooters on the market is its excellent animations system.  You shoot somebody in the shoulder, and their shoulder goes flying back. You shoot them in the legs, and their legs go flying out from under them.  The  next logical step for the Killzone franchise (and shooters in general) to go would be to make such shots actually matter.  Hit them in the hand, and they'll be unable to shoot with that hand. Hit them in the leg, and they'll start limping.  Possibly even make it so that the hand gets shot off ala Left 4 Dead 2 (though in not quite such an exagerrated manner).

Things to remove or change for Killzone 3:

  • The grayed out borders around the HUD in the singleplayer.  It made the view oddly constricted, and it annoyed me.  I always turned the HUD off, which also forced me to play with no crosshairs. They removed it in multiplayer, which only makes me wonder why they put it in singleplayer.
  • The default multiplayer modes.  Hell, they could patch this into Killzone 2!  Don't make a general Warzone mode that involves all maps.  Most people inevitably go with the default Warzone mode, which means you'll have 32 players running around on tiny maps like Blood Gracht.  It's a mess!  Give us two possible options, a Large Warzone, with 32 players on all maps but the smallest four, and a Small Warzone, with 16 or 20 players on all maps but the largest four.  Don't even give us the option of having 32 players on all maps unless we make a custom game!

Making the mutliplayer easier to get into would also be nice. Starting off is very hard since you only have 1 gun and no skills.

It's at least helpful that they added the ability to see more information about the joinable game in the browser.

While it still needs to say which map is being played, it's great to be able to avoid all the stupid configurations and one map games.

They should keep the MP the way it is with minor tweaks such as more game types and more maps. Incorporating the new weapons into the current classes and maybe add another class or 2. Also make the leveling up a little longer/harder. Maybe adding vehicles to the larger maps.

Online co-op only, I dont want the game's graphics to be hindered to make splitscreen possible. And leave the controls alone,  they were fine, the lack of auto aim was great and forced you to learn how to aim.

Better story, longer campaign, better voice acting and Rico must die in the first 3 missions. KZ2 was good but I know they can do better.

More enemy types, more weapons, more vehicle sections, maybe squad control if done well. The dogs are awesome and should never have been skipped, a few more weapons are all that is needed. They did have a good variety but you can always have more guns. The hip mounted weapons Rico used in the first game would have been nice to see.

Offline and online co-op will be great! I'd like a little more variety in environments, maybe visiting diferent planets.

Play my LittleBigPlanet level: Mystic Runner. Thanks!
