Yep, go look at call of duty, used to be ww 2, until MW then treyarch mad world at war which was set at ww 2. Then came MW 2, then treyarch says that the nect call of duty game was not going to be in ww2. Also the Medal of honor series was a big ww2 franchise, but the next game is going to be in modern days.

WW2 theme would be more popular if someone actually took the time to do it right...

I'm sure we'll see some WWII games from some other developers. Despite what the majority of people on this site think many people still enjoy a WWII game.

They really need to show how the war was really done.  Games usually do a good vs evil thing even though the war was very grey.

We need a world war II game where you can pick a country, and a theatre if that country was involved in multiple theatres, and fight your way through it. America, Britain, Soviet Union, China, Germany, Japan, Italy, even Vichy France (they had troops fighting for the Axis all over the world too)

America in Western Europe, which has been done to death, but could be an option, America pacific, America Mediterranean. Vichy France in colonial Africa, Japan in China, or China in China.

Still FPS gameplay, but embrace all the multiple angles at once.

It's dead? Then what is the sabetour from Pandemic? It certainly doesn't look like a modern war to me.
