There was a time when society (US at least) was more prudish and even two TV characters sleeping in the same bed was taboo. A little innuendo went a long way back then, but today not so much. Today you can flip on cable TV and pratically get softcore porn. Kissing, groping, non-explicity sex scenes, and more have become the norm. "Sex sells" is a relic from a past era.
