That thing is ugly, what a bad design

| Cypher1980 said: This is great news for PS4, terrible news for PS3 If the announcement is true every developer has just effectively been told "Sorry we made a right lash up in picking the Cell" Where is the need to learn how the architecture works and investing years into game engine development for a chip thats about to be dumped for a generic easy to code for succesor. May as well just say "Keep pumping out the shoddy Xbox ports coz the Cell is being put out to pasture" For these reasons I doubt the announcent is accurate. |
Well, the POWER7 is a cell as well.
It's possible that it is still programmed the same way, but additionally it can handle traditional code much better than the current cell can.
But, yeah. I agree with your post.

If the cell is included in the PS4, then all is well and good for BC, if not, then no way. Here's hoping that they keep it. On the other hand, they'll have to stick with Nvidia GPU architecture to maintain BC as well. I hope the GT300s are good, because that is most likely the core of what the PS4 will use for GPU.
EDIT: GAH! I just read the article stating that a PowerVR 3D GPU will be used. If so then, bye bye BC. The selective rendering of the VR3D chip will not play nicely with the zone rendering used by Nvidia. Well, hopefully Ninty and MS stick with ATI. Frankly VR can bluster all they want, but ATI tech kicks butt.
Let us all hope these rumors are untrue.

yup, 400$ is a good thing to start with.
@topic:
give me Killzone 2 with 60FPS in 1080p and 16x AA and im happy. :P
based on how the processor looks on paper.. its stronger than the current Cell processor in the PS3... =]

Agreed, it would be a nice piece of tech, but BC would be questionable at best.

People, PS3 should be pretty cheap in that moment, like the 150$ ps2 when ps3 was released, and the 99$ ps2 in a later moment of ps3 lifetime. So, i don't have any worries about BC with ps3, about BC of PS4 with ps2, it should be easy since they could even put a ps2 inside it should be pretty ,pretty cheap in that moment.
Well, I really wish they don't use a new disk media in ps4. It worked pretty well for PS1 and PS2, but was terrible for PS3. And don't go for higher resolutions, making 1080p standard is pretty good.
The thing about Sony electronics is that they want to be fashion, make people pay more just because of the brand Sony. Here in Brazil it works pretty well, people are up to pay 1000BRL more to have a Sony product.
i dont care...i only hope that every developer will release their games till 2012 and not wait tilll the PS4 is out...i still want a good year 2010,2011 and 2012 with the PS3...and only then im ready for a 4!
and if the PS4 will cost around 300-400$ it will sale like crazy...cos it isnt much for a new console + a PlayStation console!
| superchunk said: 1. Its still a major rumor. 2. 2012 as I've been saying would be the release of nextGen stuff. 3. Sony hasn't learned their lesson if true. First rumors of PSP2 show an over-powered expensive system. First rumors of PS4 show an over-powered expensive system. Why can't $ony find that happy middle ground where you get a good upgrade of capability while keeping the price to build and thus the price to buy at a moderate level. This super high end crap is why Sony is losing in every market across the board. |
well a happy middle ground its what the others do. Sony always where about high end crap and thats why they have such a large fan base (me included) and i hope they go that path again, but this time they should be building a console at least 2x better than others in every way, that would be a proper excuse to pay more for it... and like my (since E3 2009) sig says, no motion controllers as standard, just optional for some type of games... that would be a win situation for me!
