Forums - Sony - Analyst: PS3 has 'significant price advantage' this Christmas

You'd be surprised how accurate this thing is. Yesterday I sold 4 PS3s, 2 Wiis and 0 360s. I had a bunch of parents coming in to buy a console for their children and asked the difference between the Arcade, Elites and PS3s. A lot of them thinks MS is ripping people off on the price point for their accessories, and truthfully I can't say that I don't agree. Customers are a lot more informed then we all think and when it comes to spending hundreds of dollars they want more bang for their buck. Oddly enough we sold a shit load of Ratchet and Clanks yesterday as well. And I only saw one dude walk out with Uncharted 2. He also bought DJ Hero renegade edition

People also listen to their salesperson when they don't know what to get.

Of course it does, the 360 is really almost twice the price as the lowest entry model PS3.

The more PS3's they sell, the more they make, and if they can make more of them at the one time, then they can make it cheaper than before...hence each unit becomes cheaper to make then the previous model.  Even if Sony are losing money on the current PS3 Slims, they will eventually start making a profit sooner rather than later......

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

I know what you're implying and I don't like it. For your information I make more money when I sell an Arcade since my commission comes off of the accessories that get sold of a Console.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

21 percent of people who don't own a PS3 are planning on buying one? But...but...but that would be 1.2 billion people!

ROTFL!!!

Doug Creutz, an analyst with Cowen Group, has declared that Sony’s PlayStation 3 has earned itself a "significant price advantage" over Microsoft’s competing Xbox 360 platform this holiday season.

“With the frontline Xbox 360 console (the Elite) also retailing for $299, we believe Sony now has, for the first time, a significant price advantage at retail, particularly in the minds of serious gamers who are more likely to be considering the PS3 vs. the Xbox 360 Elite rather than the $199 Xbox 360 Arcade version," he stated.

Furthermore, Creutz revealed that a survey result had 21 percent of those who do not currently own a PS3 were planning on investing in Sony’s black box this Christmas, compared to 12 percent who were intending to fork out for an Xbox 360 during the same period.

Lastly, the survey also revealed that 32 percent of consumers who currently own a PS2 plan on upgrading to PS3 in the near future.

Serious gamers have already bought either a PS3 or an X360, in many cases both.  The advantage this holiday is going to be the combo blu-ray/affordable games machine.
