This is very late, but here's the update for the week ended Dec 19.

1) As everyone knows, PS3 worldwide sales exceeded 1 million units this week according to VGC and outsold the XB360 by nearly 344k. In terms of comparing this year to last year, this year's gap reduction almost exactly matches the gap increase from last year.

Oh, well it didn't make the million after all. The PS3 still ended up with a better number than it started with when this thiread started in the effect comparison coulmn and we have another week over 900k.

Christmas week update:

1) As noted by Sigma, VGC scaled back their numbers for PS3 a bit last week so it didn't quite hit 1 million.

2) On the other hand, PS3 had another 900k+ week.

3) 360 sold better for the week this year than last year.

4) The above two notes are apparently the result of Christmas week being one day longer this year than last year, but both numbers are still surprisingly high to me.

New Year's week update:

1) This will be that last of my weekly updates in this thread since the initial cut effects and the holidays are now over.  However, I intend to do a monthly update to the "period" charts on the last week of each month.  I'll do this until the end of August which will cover 1 year for each of the cut and at that point the "net 2008+2009 change" will be the actual gap change for the full two years.

2) PS3 wins in all categories this week as PS3 2009 > 360 2008 and PS3 2008 > 360 2009.   There's a reason for this, however.  Sales in Americas (360's strength) collapse after Christmas week, but New Years sales are still part of the holidays in Japan and Others where 360 support is weak to horrible.  The effect last year, when 360 sales dominated the holidays, meant that 360 and PS3 sales were almost equal for the week.  The effect this year, when PS3 sales dominated the holidays, resulted in a huge imbalance in PS3's favour for the week (nearly 200k units).

3) Now that the holidays and the weekly updates are over, it's approrpriate to summarize things a bit.  Clearly the PS3 price cut is the "winner" against the 360 cut.  Not only did the PS3's cut wipe out the gap increase from last year, but there has been a further gap reduction of 515k.
