Forums - Gaming - FPS on ps3 just as popular as on x360?

The first week sales of CoD are in and

In the US

on x360 it sold 3.29 million and on the ps2 it sold around half that with half the userbase

In the UK

on x360 it sold pretty much the same amount on similar userbases

So my question is do you think FPS are evenly liked between the ps3 and x360 communities

Predictions

GT5 will sell 3.2million + first week on ps3 (made 06 March 2010)

FFXIII Versus will have higher Metacritic scores than FFXIII after the first month.... Bet going on with perpride - loser changes sig for a month

KH3 will be PS3 EXCLUSIVE - willing to bet removal from vgchartz for a month

Around the Network

Well Sony did put out more shooters this year than MS did.

And also to those that are going to come in and say Killzone 2/Resistance 2 only sold 2million, I think the reason for that is in the interest surrounding the game...

I don't think so. The 360 has a much stronger fps community.

I'm NOT saying that as a compliment, by the way. The PS3 is more diverse than the 360 and the non-crappy d-pad on the PS3 makes certain kinds of games (like fighters) much more comfortable to play. The 360 is a strong shooter platform because shooters are all they have.

As much as I try to avoid shooters on any console, ironically I have to say the PS controller is waay better for them as a left handed person since its ambidextrous, where the 360 controller has a huge right hand bias.

Seriously considering buying a PS3 :-/

PS3 is MUCH better for both 3D HD and 2D HD fighting games while 360 is aimed easier for FPS and TPS titles.

360 has Halo. Need we say more?

But IMO I prefer PS3 FPS exclusives =)

"shooters are all they have" is a very short-sighted comment. Just because xbox's biggest games are shooters doesn't mean that's all there is.

As to the D-pad, I haven't noticed that, but then again, I hate fighters these days, so that might be part of it.

As to controllers, I HATE the shoulder buttons on the PS3 controller. I've maybe logged a total of 40 hours of play time with it (just bought my ps3), and it's already infuriating. I would HATE to play shooters on the PS3, but that's not what I got it for anyways.

Further, I'm ambidextrous, and I play shooters southpaw, and I have no problem with the xbox controller, I actually prefer it. There's something about the set up on the right side thats easier for me to do than on the PS3 controller (even if those blasted shoulder buttons weren't an issue)

The real issue, Xbox typically has a higher frame-rate. Higher frame-rate = superior in terms of gameplay for shooters. Actually are any games logged as higher frame-rate on PS3? I don't know, but other than KZ2 and maybe Resistance (both), all of which I'll just borrow, I don't plan on playing FPS on PS3. Maybe MAG if it turns out better than I expect.

There is 25% more X360 than PS3, but FPS games aren't selling 25% more on X360 but 50-70% (despite piracy).

MW2:

0.11 copy on every PS3 owner;

0.14 copy on every X360 owner;

Do I need to say more ?

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

Oo, perhaps, I just bought the PS3, so I didn't look into this yet.

Edit: Oh yeah, took a look at the pictures, they seem perfect. Still kinda lame that Sony didn't foresee the problem and just have such a thing included in the first place. Well, MS makes a shoddy console, Sony makes a shoddy controller, so whatever =P one is OBVIOUSLY a cheaper problem too.
