I don't think so. The 360 has a much stronger fps community.
I'm NOT saying that as a compliment, by the way. The PS3 is more diverse than the 360 and the non-crappy d-pad on the PS3 makes certain kinds of games (like fighters) much more comfortable to play. The 360 is a strong shooter platform because shooters are all they have.
As much as I try to avoid shooters on any console, ironically I have to say the PS controller is waay better for them as a left handed person since its ambidextrous, where the 360 controller has a huge right hand bias.
Seriously considering buying a PS3 :-/

"shooters are all they have" is a very short-sighted comment. Just because xbox's biggest games are shooters doesn't mean that's all there is.
As to the D-pad, I haven't noticed that, but then again, I hate fighters these days, so that might be part of it.
As to controllers, I HATE the shoulder buttons on the PS3 controller. I've maybe logged a total of 40 hours of play time with it (just bought my ps3), and it's already infuriating. I would HATE to play shooters on the PS3, but that's not what I got it for anyways.
Further, I'm ambidextrous, and I play shooters southpaw, and I have no problem with the xbox controller, I actually prefer it. There's something about the set up on the right side thats easier for me to do than on the PS3 controller (even if those blasted shoulder buttons weren't an issue)
The real issue, Xbox typically has a higher frame-rate. Higher frame-rate = superior in terms of gameplay for shooters. Actually are any games logged as higher frame-rate on PS3? I don't know, but other than KZ2 and maybe Resistance (both), all of which I'll just borrow, I don't plan on playing FPS on PS3. Maybe MAG if it turns out better than I expect.
